NEW KAYAK LAUNCH AT TUTTY'S CROSSING TRAILHEAD - July, 2025
The Northwest Illinois Trails Foundation has donated a new "EZ Kayak Launch to the
City of Freeport for use at Tutty's Crossing Trailhead on the Jane Addams Trail. In making this $3,000 donation, Foundation President Dr. Jack Herrmann said "It was clear that the old kayak launch was not a good solution for this location, so as a non-profit group that raises funds to provide financial support to all area trails including the Pecatonica River Water Trail, we are pleased to make this donation. The new EZ Kayak Launch has been proven in other locations to provide a safe way for kayakers of all ages and skill levels to access the river, and the new configuration will also be less costly for the city to install and remove every year".

The Pecatonica River Water Trail offers four paddle trips between 6 and 8 miles in length with developed launches at each take-out point for safe and convenient access the river. Freeport Mayor Jodi Miller commented “Donations and solutions such as these are some of the most important our community can receive. The City is grateful for the generosity of the Foundation and we urge the entire community to utilize these amazing resources.”
