One of the amazing things that 140.6 mile races has taught is that sometimes in your journey the only person you can depend upon is yourself.

I definitely felt that this year about mile 85 of the bike on the big island of Hawaii during the world championships. I was tired. Hot. Hungry. Throwing up. And the only person who I could rely on to get me to the marathon was myself.

It’s the same for business. Even with vomit riddled handle bars, sweat pouring down face and having the media cameras in your face - you have two choices. Keep going. Or give up. And stopping on the side of the lava fields waiting for the support vehicle wasn’t an option.

So. Don’t let yourself down. Power through. Even if you have to change gears, sit up and stretch or simply just pedal slower. Forward is progress. Relying on only yourself is hard but empowering. Embrace it.
