Here’s your Monday fitness tip. If it’s not working for you, change it. We’re all adults here. There are no rules. A Monday through Friday schedule doesn’t work for you? Try a Wednesday through Sunday. Hate a morning workout? Try it in the evening. It’s always going to be more important to do something consistently than to get caught up in the details of how it’s done. Don’t be afraid to experiment with what will work best for you.

Consistency and discipline even at 50% of your full energy potential will always beat intensity and motivation in the long run. If you have to cover 100 miles in the most efficient time possible and you have the chance to either walk at 2mph for 1 hour every single day or do 10 full out sprints that consist of covering a tenth of a mile per sprint but you only get to do those 3 times a week, who is going to reach the 100 mile mark faster? The person walking is the answer. They’ll reach that mark in 50 straight days as where it will take the sprinter 100 spread out days. Realistically it would take the sprinter closer to 233 days to reach that mark because they’re only training 3 times a week. This is just a quick example to show that intensity and the ready to die mentality are nothing without frequency. This style of training for the general population that doesn’t get paid to workout is not sustainable. We will often look at the next most intense thing that we can do to help us reach our goals and what happens is that we burn out because we find out that we are not quite in the shape or the mentality to do that intense of a workout every single day so then we get frustrated and do it even less and eventually repeat the cycle. However, if we start looking at our health and wellness as part of our day-to-day habits and as an actual part of our lives, there is no need to restart every time. We all have off days, with everything. A quarter of a step forward is still a step that’s moving towards your goals. Rather than giving up the day and your movement simply because you’re not going to be able to hit a PR on a lift or even get to the gym, do something at home. Go for a long walk. Do that more labor intensive chore that has been lingering around for a while. It’s necessary that we move every day. What it doesn’t have to be is an all out war with ourselves every day though. Stay consistent, stay disciplined, have fun. 😁

There’s a variety of different ways to stay in shape for all ability levels and different lifestyles. If one isn’t working for you or won’t work for you, there’s another one out there that will. It’s all about adapting and continuing to have fun.
