Big date on the calendar: Monday, July 20 at 9 a.m., Colorado Parks and Wildlife opens the online application portal for the new fi****ms eligibility card required under SB25-003.
Starting August 1, buying or transferring most semiautomatic ri**es and many handguns in Colorado will require this card, an approved safety course, and sheriff review.
The process has more steps than most people expect. Online application, third-party background check, county sheriff documents, a $52 state fee, and either a 4-hour or 12-hour in-person course depending on your hunter education status. Heads up for CCW holders: your permit training does not carry over.
We broke down the full first-steps process on the blog, including what Douglas County residents specifically need to know. Read it, then stop by the shop at 7460 CO-86 in Franktown with questions, or browse training at https://recoilfun.com/colorado-fi****ms-eligibility-card/
