Quietly fascinated by sharks.

Not for the reasons most people expect. Not the teeth. Not the danger. Not the drama we've been sold in every movie since we were kids.

What moves me is this: a shark never stops moving forward. Not out of aggression โ€” out of necessity. It's simply how they breathe. How they stay alive. Forward is the only direction that keeps them well.

I think about that a lot.

How many of us have been taught to see our own forward motion as something threatening? To apologize for taking up space, for moving with purpose, for knowing what we need and going toward it without hesitation?

The shark doesn't question whether it deserves the ocean, it just swims.

There's something in that I want to carry into my own life. Into every room I walk into, every class I teach, every hard conversation I have with myself on the mat.

Keep moving, stay curious and trust that you belong in the deep end.

You are not too much and you are exactly enough โ€” ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ.

What animal has ever stopped you in your tracks and made you think? I'd genuinely love to know. ๐Ÿ‘‡

โœจ What if you booked the trip now โ€” and let yourself grow into it?

That's the invitation with South Africa.

October 14โ€“22, 2027. Nine days. Three landscapes.
One experience you will never forget.

We start in Cape Town โ€” kayaking at Boulders Beach alongside African penguins, then hiking Platteklip Gorge at sunrise to the top of Table Mountain.

We move through Stellenbosch wine country โ€” an eco wine safari through biodynamic vineyards, a chocolate and wine pairing at Boschendal Farm, dinner overlooking the valley.

And then we go to Sashwa River of Stars.

A private Big Five reserve. Dawn game drives through the bush. Dusk light on open savannah. Elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, giraffes, zebras. Guided walks with field experts. Stargazing so clear it recalibrates something in you.

And yoga woven through all of it.

$750 deposit opens the door.
October 2027 gives you all the time you need to be ready.

This one is for the people who've always wanted to go to Africa. ๐ŸŒ

โœจ We live in a world that is obsessed with progress.

With milestones. With tracking and measuring and optimizing. With the next level, the next stage, the next version of ourselves.

And sometimes โ€” in the middle of a hard season, a slow season, a season where nothing looks like it's moving โ€” all of that noise becomes a kind of cruelty.

This is what I keep coming back to on the mat:

The breath doesn't rush.
The body doesn't skip steps.
Growth that lasts doesn't announce itself.

You are not behind.
You are in the work.
That is the only place transformation ever actually happens.

Hold that today. ๐ŸŒฟ

โœจ The stories we tell ourselves before we ever step on the mat:

"I'm not flexible enough."
"I don't have time."
"I'll start when things calm down."
"Yoga is for people who already have it together."

I've heard every version of this and I've said some of them myself.

Here's what over two decades of practice has taught me: those aren't reasons. They're the exact weight the practice is designed to help you put down.

You don't arrive at yoga ready.
You arrive. And then it makes you ready.

Inhale for the present moment.
Exhale, let it go.

That's the whole instruction and we'll unfold from there. ๐ŸŒฟ

โœจ Yoga class vs. Yoga Therapy โ€” they're not the same thing and I love both.

A yoga class is wonderful. Community, movement, breath. It's designed for the group โ€” a general sequence that serves everyone reasonably well.

Yoga Therapy is different.

It's one-on-one. It's tailored to your body, your history, your patterns. It asks not just "what can you do?" but "what is your body trying to tell you?"

I've spent 20+ years studying this work โ€” with teachers like Dr. Bo Forbes, Amy Matthews, and Tom Myers โ€” so I can meet you where you actually are.

Not where you think you should be; where you are right now.

If you've been curious about whether yoga therapy could help you โ€” the answer might surprise you.

Let's connect.

โœจ Madeira Island, Portugal

We are here โ€” and it is everything.

Day one on Madeira and the Atlantic already has us. Eight days together at the Sentido Galosol Hotel: daily yoga and meditation at sunrise, and a different kind of adventure every afternoon.

This week we walk a levada at sunset and toast with Poncha at the ocean's edge. We explore the colour and chaos of the Funchal market. We sail to Cabo Girรฃo โ€” Europe's highest sea cliff โ€” on a catamaran with dolphins hopefully alongside us. We ride e-bikes through volcanic landscapes, hike above valleys in Sรฃo Vicente, and have lunch at a local farm where the chicken is grilled over wood and the wine is made on the property.

And woven through all of it: breath, movement, stillness, and the kind of conversation that only seems to happen when you are far from your ordinary life.

This is what retreat is for.

Next stops: Sicily, October 4โ€“10, 2026 โœจ South Africa, October 14โ€“22, 2027

๐ŸŒฟ I have been leading teacher trainings since 2016 and I still get a little emotional watching it happen.

There is a specific moment, usually somewhere in the middle of the program, when a student stops performing yoga and starts actually feeling it. They stop trying to look like a teacher and start sounding like themselves. That shift โ€” from imitation to authenticity โ€” is the whole point. And I get to witness it every single time.

The 200-hour training I lead with Theresa Murphy at Revolution Community Yoga in Acton isn't just about learning to teach a class.

It is a full immersion in how the human body moves and why, in the philosophy and history behind the practice, in the anatomy that makes safe and intelligent teaching possible. We go deep into sequencing, Sanskrit, breathwork, and โ€” most importantly โ€” how to hold space for the enormous variety of bodies and stories that will walk into your future classroom.

Our next cohort begins September 2026.

If the idea of teaching has been quietly pulling at you โ€” whether you want to stand at the front of a studio or simply understand your own practice more fully โ€” this is built for you.

Something I come back to, again and again

I have been teaching long enough to know that the hardest part of yoga for most people isn't the posture, flexibility or strength. It's the permission to actually stop and put down โ€” even for a few minutes โ€” the mental load of everything unfinished. Everything upcoming. Everything that feels like it needs to be held together by sheer will.

The breath is the doorway in. Always available and always honest.

When I notice I've been living mostly in my head, I don't reach for a full practice. I just pause. One conscious inhale. One real exhale. And in that small gap, something settles. Just a little more at peace with whatever comes.

That phrase was shared with me by a client years ago and I have never forgotten it. It's become something of a quiet anchor.

If you've been carrying a lot lately, I hope you find a moment today to set it down โ€” just briefly. Your nervous system will thank you. ๐Ÿƒ

What brings you back to the present moment when life gets loud? I'd love to hear it.

๐ŸŒบ If I had to pick a spirit animal, it would be the hummingbird.

Here is why:

The hummingbird is drawn to beauty everywhere it goes. It travels extraordinary distances โ€” across oceans, between continents โ€” and yet when it arrives somewhere, it is completely, fully there. Hovering and present, always attentive to what is right in front of it.

That is the life I have tried to build.

Teaching yoga in Canada, the United States, Japan. Leading retreats in Croatia, Morocco, Italy, Portugal. Studying with teachers around the world โ€” Baron Baptiste, Ana Forrest, Tom Myers, Sarah Powers โ€” always curious, always learning, always asking what else is possible.

And yet the thread running through all of it is the same:

Genuine presence with the person in front of me. Whether that is a student finding their first downward dog, a teacher in training discovering their voice, or a private client finally understanding why their shoulder has hurt for years โ€” the work is always about arriving fully in that moment with that person.

The hummingbird just shows up completely and that's what I aspire to, every single session. ๐ŸŒฟ
