This study suggests that exercising twice a week, even with light resistance, can benefit mental health in the elderly by slowing the progression of brain lesions. Very interesting focus of research.

A new experiment suggests that light resistance training a few times a week may also slow the age-related shrinking of some parts of our brains.

I have a few new clients coming in that have been diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS). As I'm looking up rehabilitation protocols to learn more about the injury, I'm reminded of why it's a terrible idea to do your own rehab.

If you're hurt, find a good therapist first. (It may take some time, unfortunately). A personal trainer or even strength & conditioning coach (like me) isn't trained in rehabilitation or the nitty gritty of scapular mechanics. Same goes for backs, knees, and hips.

I'm damn good at post-rehab. But I require all of my clients to have seen a PT or chiropractor for assessment & treatment before I begin post-rehab fitness training.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) is a complex and sometimes difficult condition to identify and treat. Thoracic outlet syndrome occurs with compromise of the nerves and blood vessels passing from the neck into the arm through a region known as the […]

Here is the harsh truth about abs: it really is all about your nutrition. Doing hundreds of situps (or even abwheel rollouts) each day won't make you into Brad Pitt or Jessica Alba any faster.

I can perform damn near every abdominal exercise there is - levers, standing rollouts, l-sits, dragon flags, double kettlebell get ups, barbell rollouts, etc.

But if my nutrition is slacking, my abs look lousy. Too much pasta and I "lose an ab" (or two).

Train hard, train smart, eliminate sugar, limit (time) your starches, drink minimally, and it'll come. Eventually.

I've been using it for a few weeks and it's been working like a champ.

When it comes to lifestyle change, I recommend taking it one step at a time. What's my current step? Remembering to take my multivitamin once a day and fish oil with 3 meals a day.

My inflammation levels had started to go up (so a few old injuries started to feel worse). It was the kick in the ass that I needed to get back to supplementing with Omega 3 since I don't get enough in my diet.
