Conrad Jones Karate

Conrad Jones Karate Helping students of all ages build character traits to help them throughout their lives: respect, ma Each person learns at their own pace.

Conrad Jones has been helping children and adults stay active, healthy and safe for over 40 years. Our school is located in TOA Sports Performance Center (formerly AGame Sportsplex), and we also teach classes for the students at Franklin Road Academy, Battleground Academy, New Hope Academy, The Goddard School and Creative Care Center. In our classes, the purpose of martial arts is to become a bett

er person by building character traits that will help us throughout our entire lives, such as respect, manners, self-control, patience and perseverance. In our children's classes, we'll help increase their self-confidence, build their self-esteem, and show them how to avoid negative peer pressure, physical conflicts, and deal with bullies and strangers. We'll reinforce the importance of eating healthy foods, exercising, personal hygiene and safety ... all while having a great time! Martial arts is an individualized sport; there are no bench warmers! Our classes are a perfect blend of education, motivation and FUN! Three-time light heavyweight point sparring champion Conrad Jones brought his tournament-fighting experience into his classes to help keep everyone OUT of fights! A national finalist for Martial Arts Instructor of the Year by the largest martial arts organization in the world, Mr. Jones and his instructors work on drills in every class to increase the odds that if your child is ever put into a situation with a bully or stranger, they will know what to do, and fast! Teenagers and adults enjoy the benefits of exercising while learning practical and simple self-defense techniques which are easy to learn and easy to use if the situation should ever arise. We provide a wide variety of family-oriented martial arts training. Our core practice is Wado Ryu Karate, although we also integrate other styles such as grappling, jiujitsu, pressure points and weapons training.

Meet Mr. Sanders.

Jeff Sanders, 6th Dan, Isshinryu
2003 Rokudan
1975 Shodan
Mr. Sanders started his karate career in 1968, training at the Melrose Wadoryu Dojo, under the lineage of Cecil T. Patterson, who brought Wadoryu to TN in 1957, and Sensei Roy Hinkle. Mr. Sanders soon felt the call into military service, and served honorably with the US Army. He explored several martial arts during his military tenure. Upon completing his service, he next began training in the Isshinryu style of karate, at the Nashville Dojo, under the lineage of Harold Long who brought Isshinryu to TN in 1959, and Sensei Denny Shaffer. Mr. Sanders received dan blackbelt grade promotions in the Isshinryu system between 1975 to 2003, culminating in promotion to Roku (6th)-dan. In 2024, Mr. Sander’s grandson Matthew began training with us at Conrad Jones Karate. We soon realized there was more to him than a kid-chauffeur, and soon after, we began to come to know him and his history, and welcomed him to begin dressing out and enjoying to continue training again with us, bringing his Wadoryu training full-circle from his beginning days 6 decades ago. We are very happy to have him training with us, and our students greatly enjoy hearing his experience and wisdom as he shares with them.
