Many thanks to all who came out this morning and supported Sara Shook!! With in person, and online donations, we have raised $1,860 so far! If you would like to make a donation, please message me and I can get that set up !
Due to her health, Sara couldn’t stay to dance but left us all teary-eyed with a special poem she’d written for the event. She’s allowing me to share it here. ❤️
On Hope and Gratitude
For me, Hope is not really the dainty thing we portray it as.
My Hope is not twittering birds or pink ribbons or a fragile vulnerability.
My Hope is ferocious.
My Hope is a soldier, army crawling through mud and barbed wire.
My Hope is a tenacious terrier forever on the prowl for garden pests.
My Hope is a bloodied prize winning boxer, gloved hand held high in victory.
My Hope is the thick cords of rope attached to the sails of my ancestors.
My hope never retreats because it comes from above and it is what is healing me now.
My Hope, though, has a twin sister called gratitude.
They come together, arm in arm, one feisty while the other is more gentle, a pairing that doesn’t exist in singularity.
So today, you are the twin to my hope. You are my gratitude personified and I thank you so much for showing up for me.
