Tennessee Golf Foundation staff from across the state traveled to Jupiter, Florida, this week for training at the Els for Autism Foundation. The visit brought together TGF team members with a shared goal: learning how to bring the Ernie Els Autism Golf Program to Tennessee.

During the week, staff took part in hands-on training focused on adaptive golf instruction, communication strategies, and ways to create welcoming, supportive environments on the golf course for individuals on the autism spectrum. The experience offered valuable insight into how golf can be used as a tool for learning, confidence-building, and connection.

This training marks an exciting step forward for the Tennessee Golf Foundation as it works to expand inclusive programming across the state and open the game to more families and communities through golf.

Tennessee golf has lost a legend.

Lew Conner, a true unifier and visionary, passed away Sunday at 87. From helping bridge the Tennessee Golf Association and the Tennessee PGA Section in the 1970s, to founding the Tennessee Golf Foundation, Lew’s leadership shaped the game for generations. His dedication ensured opportunities for juniors, amateurs, and countless people across the state. His true impact is immeasurable.

A Tennessee Golf Hall of Famer, Vanderbilt Athletics Hall of Famer, and accomplished amateur golfer, Lew’s legacy lives on at The Little Course at Conner Lane and in the lives he touched.

“When it comes to the cooperative culture that Tennessee golf is known for, Lew was probably the single most important person in getting us to where we are today,” said Dick Horton

Thank you, Lew, for a lifetime of service, passion, and leadership. Your impact will be felt for many years to come.
