🥋 I've broken many kickbags throughout my life, which is what led to me creating this 600lbs behemoth (about 20 yrs ago) made of tires with the rims in them and still quite a bit of air as well.
🥋 Every strike requires your full concentration and intention. It's easy to jam a wrist or kick it and bounce the other way. Each time you slam your shinbone into it from a roundhouse kick, you feel a shock of pain that goes through your leg that's impossible to ignore.
🥋 It's been 3 years since I've been able to use this tirebag. I've got severe degenerative disc disease between L5-S1(probably from doing stuff like this all of my life). My back couldn't absorb the impact of throwing as hard as I could against 600 lbs without getting all out of whack.
🥋 I was forced to take a step back, re-adjust, and see what was still possible. Over the last 3 years, I have been diligent with both strengthening and stretching it. I do yoga daily now, which has been an absolute gamechanger, and the only thing that I have found to provide me with long-term pain relief.
🥋 So a few weeks ago, I decided I'd give it a whirl again and see how things felt. I was pleasantly pleased that I was able to get some rounds in without any debilitating pain for days afterwards. These clips are just some brief highlights.
🥋 Sometimes we have to slow down, re-adjust, and see what moving forward will take and look like. What we may have thought was a roadblock could only be a speed bump or vice versa. There will inevitabley come a day when we physically won't be able to do some of the things we love doing or be able to do them with the same intensity. When that day happens, we should slow down, re-adjust, and see what direction we can still go. The direction may change, but the journey never stops.
