MOBBI LLC The Brain creates new connections & strengthen existing ones through movement of the body. That was just the tip of the ice berg so to speak.

I have been interested in and experienced the importance of movement in learning for many years. In the early years I thought just being involved in any physical activity was enough to improve attention and concentration. The first 9 years of my teaching experience was in 6th grade self contained regular education classroom. I saw many students who were physically active continue to struggle with

academics and those who were not active, many of them struggled even more. 19 years ago I moved from 6th grade into Physical Education. As I watched children attempt basic locomotor movement, participation in activities and cooperation with other children in the class I noticed that many struggled. I began reading books (see my book list page on my blog) on movement and learning. Many of these books talk about brain integration and brain-body integration. I began to ask questions of the classroom teachers about students who I saw struggle. It was noticed that students who struggle academically also struggled physically. I have conducted and/or been part of several research projects related to movement and learning. Results show that there is a relationship between movement and learning. What I have found is that ALL ages benefit from movement based integration exercises. Balance, eye tracking, walking gait, self esteem, are just a few examples of ways those who participate in movement integration experience success

Moving your body might be one of the simplest ways to protect your brain. Research shows that activities like cycling do more than improve fitness. They can actually support the growth of new brain cells, a process known as neurogenesis. This is especially important as the brain ages and becomes more vulnerable to decline.

When you ride a bike, your heart rate increases, sending more oxygen rich blood to the brain. This boost helps release chemicals that encourage neuron growth and strengthen connections between brain cells. Over time, this can improve memory, focus, and overall cognitive function. It also plays a role in reducing the risk of conditions like dementia, which affects millions of people worldwide.

Cycling also reduces stress, which is a major factor in brain health. Lower stress levels help maintain a balanced nervous system, allowing the brain to function more efficiently. Even moderate, regular rides can make a noticeable difference.

The key is consistency. You do not need intense workouts. Just 20 to 30 minutes of cycling a few times a week can support long term brain health. Small daily habits like this can quietly build a stronger, more resilient mind over time.

"Children with ADHD endure frequent criticism or negative feedback from parents, teachers, other adults, and peers, and this steady stream of judgment often degrades their self-esteem. When emotional outbursts, poor social skills, and disorganization are misunderstood in school and at home, that may lead kids to internalize negative beliefs about themselves."
