Intramural Program (also known as “MABA” or “Saturday Hoops)🏀🔥
As a town, we are extremely proud to offer a recreational program that gives our athletes an opportunity to “just play” while developing their fundamentals in a fun, relaxed setting.
Elementary Program (Grades 1–3)
Players will participate in weekly 75-minute sessions focused on developing beginner-level basketball skills and knowledge. Coaches will combine weekly skill development with a variety of games designed to introduce players to basketball. Regardless of skill level, coaches will tailor the goals of each lesson to ensure that all players are learning and having fun.
Secondary Program (Grades 4–8)
Players will participate in weekly 90-minute sessions where they will continue to expand their basketball knowledge through drills and 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 games. Weekly drills will focus on beginner- to intermediate-level skills, with more advanced skills introduced as players grow in age and ability. Each session will conclude with a fun but competitive scrimmage featuring a scoreboard and referees.
Kindergarten Program
Registration is open to kindergarten students in the Medway community. The season will consist of five 75-minute sessions on select Saturdays. Players will be introduced to the fundamentals of basketball, including passing, shooting, and dribbling. They will use 26.5-inch basketballs and play on 8-foot hoops. The goal of the kindergarten program is for players to have fun while previewing many of the concepts they will learn over the next few years.
Travel Program🏀🔥
MABA’s Travel Program is Medway’s competitive basketball offering. It gives players the opportunity to develop their skills and compete alongside their teammates against teams from other towns.
The Travel Program for grades 4–8 includes:
-Two 75-minute practices per week beginning in November
-One preseason tournament or jamboree, usually held in mid- to late November
-One game per week, typically on Sundays, beginning in December
-A 12-game regular season against other towns participating in the MetroWest Basketball League with single-elimination playoffs at the end of the season
Travel Evaluations🏀🔥
For grades 5–8, tryouts and evaluations will be held to determine each player’s roster placement. Players will be assigned to a roster aligned with their skill level, such as an A team or B team.
Fourth-grade players will also be evaluated, but the rosters will be balanced to ensure an even distribution of talent.
Third-Grade Travel Program🏀🔥
The third-grade Travel Program has a registration fee of $225 and includes:
-A slightly shorter season of approximately 10 games that are 4-on-4, played on 8-foot hoops
-One practice per week, typically on Friday evenings
-Evaluations during the first few weeks of practice, after which players will be divided into evenly balanced teams
Please note: Due to gym-time constraints, we have a maximum of 24 roster spots for third grade. Players will be accepted in the order in which they register, so we encourage families to register promptly.
Important: Please be careful to register your child for the correct grade level.
Family Registration Fee Cap
To assist families registering multiple players, we have capped registration fees at $825 per household. If your total registration fees exceed $825, please contact [email protected] and [email protected] to have a discount applied after registration.
