A New Year Reflection on My Journey into the Environmental Industry:
Reflecting on my journey, I realize that my first exposure to the environmental industry was entirely serendipitous. Growing up, I was always captivated by the outdoorsโwhether it was hiking, camping with my family, playing with my friends in the woods behind my house, or fishing with my Dad โ but it wasn't until I enrolled in an environmental science class in college that I truly discovered the many career opportunities available to someone who shares that passion. During high school, the idea of blending outdoor experiences with scientific exploration never crossed my mind. However, learning about the intersection of nature and science sparked a profound intrigue in me. It opened my eyes to the possibility that I could make a career out of something I loved. Fast forward to my graduation, and I was thrilled to begin my career at a commercial environmental laboratory. That was 23 years ago, and since then, I have personally witnessed a significant shift in public awareness surrounding environmental issues. Today, individuals and communities are increasingly conscious of how environmental concerns affect their daily lives. This growing awareness fuels my passion for providing environmental analytical services. At my company, we donโt focus solely on the high-profile cases or the most challenging clients. Instead, we pride ourselves on being a provider of professional analytical services for a variety of environmental testing situations. I have a personal mission to contribute positively to my community. And, as a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience, I am equally passionate about my career in environmental science and overall environmental health, just like anyone who cares deeply about these issues. Every voice matters, and every effort counts toward creating a better world for future generations. If thereโs one takeaway from my journey, itโs this: I wholeheartedly applaud anyone striving to make a positive impact on the world around them. Always do your best to be your best! I hope we all win, for the benefit of generations to come! -Nichole Jones
