(8/29) Today's Black Belt instructors for Ground Control:
Curt Brannan, Ferdinand Perez, Joe Hoskins, Scott McNabb & Ms. Rich. Teaching ground control in martial arts is essential because a large percentage of real-world physical altercations end up on the ground. Most untrained fights go to the ground naturally through tackles, slips, or trips. Proper ground control relies on body positioning, balance, and leverage instead of brute strength. Knowing how to control an opponent on the ground lets a martial artist neutralize a threat safely without causing severe injury. Ground training teaches students how to stay calm, breathe, and think clearly while physically exhausted or pinned.

(8/11) AAMA Black Belts, Ferdinand Perez, Scott McNabb, Mackey Hermosillo, Noah Grubbs and Miss Rich worked the students through the Core Principles of Bag Work yesterday. It was wonderful having Mr. Grubbs back with us for the night!

Bag Work Core Principles:
Guard up: Keep your hands high to protect your face even after you strike.
Footwork: Move around the bag. Do not just stand right in front of it. Circle, step in to attack, and step out.
Distance: Range your strikes so you do not crowd or hyperextend your arms and legs.
Breathe: Exhale sharply on every single impact.
