For years, we have been told carbs are the devil and make us fat. But the truth is, carbs are a crucial part of a healthy, balanced diet and they don't lead to weight gain without overconsumption. So, let's dive deeper and talk about it! Carbohydrates are one of the three main macronutrients, alongside proteins and fats. They are the body's most abundant source of ENERGY! That’s right you NEED carbs! You’ll find them not only in grains but fruits, vegetables, and legumes. This myth likely comes from the misunderstanding that carbs are "fattening." But in reality, eating too many calories overall, not just carbs, leads to weight gain. Carbs, like all foods, should be consumed in moderation based on your activity level and energy needs. When consumed in a balanced diet, alongside fats and protein, carbs can help you manage your weight, not increase it! The key is to focus on complex carbs, such as whole grains, beans and veggies over simple carbs like candy and soda. Complex carbs digest more slowly, keeping you fuller longer and providing sustained energy throughout the day. On the other hand, simple carbs can spike blood sugar levels, leading to energy crashes and making us more tired. Carbs are essential for muscle repair, brain function, and physical performance. Without them, your body doesn't have the energy it needs to perform at its best. So, don’t let someone tell you the only way to go is Keto or low carb. It’s all about balance and moderation, not avoidance.
