Way to Represent!

I and all of the instructors are extremely proud of these competitors for giving their best at the PKC Internationals. This is a 3 day tournament with competitors from all over the country. It’s one of, if not the toughest traditional Karate tournament in the country!

They continually ask for feedback, take it to heart and implement. All watch their ‘game day’ recordings to see where they can improve or what they could have done differently. No excuses. No complaining about judging which is subjective by nature. Honest, hard work which makes every instructor proud.

But..

I’m more proud of how they supported each other, the positive way they represented Legacy, me & the art itself! The compliments we get about our team supporting each other, having great attitudes seeing them make friends that will last a life time are what we truly treasure!

Winning doesn’t matter if you’re not a good person!

Not only am I proud but so is Nakamoto Sensei, Takuma Sensei, Kaicho Williams (Sensei Frank), and I’m sure Soke Gillenwater is smiling down from above!

Keep doing what you’re doing! The lessons you're learning on this team will carry way beyond the dojo!

If you see your little ninja dancing in class, just remember...

Focus is a muscle! 💪

Just like any other muscle, it gets stronger with practice. Every time they bring their eyes back to the instructor, get their body still, or refocus after getting distracted, they’re working that focus muscle.

We don’t expect perfect focus. We practice it. 🥋

In a scary or stressful situation, it can be difficult to think clearly, remember what you’ve learned, or know how to respond.

That’s why we practice. And practice. And practice again. 🥋

Through repetition, students begin building muscle memory. The goal is for movements like blocking, creating distance, or protecting themselves to become more natural and automatic.

Because when a child is scared or under pressure, we don’t want them trying to remember a technique they practiced once six months ago.

We want their training to kick in.

Self-defense isn’t just about knowing what to do. It’s about practicing those skills enough that your body knows how to respond when it matters. 💪
