A little history of the game of Lacrosse:
Baaga'adowewin is the Ojibwe name for Lacrosse.
It is America's oldest sport!!
On June 4th, 1763 nearly 500 Ojibwe and Sauk devised a plan to capture Fort Michilimackinac and overthrow the British. The women hid weapons along the wall and under their shawls and watched as warriors played a game of Lacrosse. The 500 tossed the ball back and forth, British soldiers being entertained were not expecting the attack. They moved closer to the main gate, tossed the ball over the gate, dropped their sticks, and picked up weapons.
The Ojibwe and Sauk captured the fort and drove the British from the area. This became known as Pontiac's war, named after Chief Pontiac that led the battle to reclaim the land. This was the beginning of America's fight for Independence, which eventually led to the Revolutionary War. There is no other modern sport with such a connection to America's history like Lacrossse.
Concordia Cadets Lacrosse when you step out on that battlefield think of those that came before you, battle next to your brothers and be proud to be a Warrior!!
