These classes are taught on Wednesdays at 9:30am, 11:00am and 1:00pm to Home School students. Lions Karate teaches classes at the Aldersgate UMC in Fort Wayne as an extension from the main dojo in North Webster and is taught by Mr. Steve Hanford. These classes meet on Wednesday mornings and taught to home school students. Fort Wayne classes are taught by Mr. Hanford and Mrs. Bond. Hanford has trai
ned for over 29 years and holds the rank of 6th degree black belt in Taekwondo, 4th degree black belt in Kobudo, 3rd degree black belt in Aiki-jujitsu and is a certified instructor (Sa Bum Nim). Taekwondo deals mainly with kicking and punching. Hanford is not a typical Taekwondo instructor that focuses on kicking to the head. He focuses on realistic self defense techniques that everyone can do to stay safe and does not focus on kicking to the head. Hand techniques and stances are very important in his classes. Kobudo is weaponry where Mr. Hanford will teach the bo/staff, nunchucks, tonfa, sais, sword, naginata, and the bokken to students after they obtain the rank of orange belt. Aiki-jujitsu focuses on using the opponents momentum against themselves. It deals with projection throws, joint locks, and submissions. Hanford will include some of these techniques in his regular classes and instruct more on these techniques to adults only. Lions Karate in North Webster is a martial arts facility opened by Grand Master Ken Gillenwater and handed over to Mr. Hanford in 2013. There they teaches Taekwondo, Kobudo, and Aiki-jujitsu. Aiki-jutsu is only taught to adults, and there are three different kids classes and two teen classes throughout the week that meet twice a week and an adult class that meets twice a week.
