More Client Success!

Been working with Pat for over a year now, he's stronger now and more consistent than he's ever been with working out... Not to mention he might be the only one his age I know that can do an 18" box jump!

Here's what he had to say:
"I've been training with Jon Habeshy for over 15 months. I've achieved many health goals with his knowledge and experience through his training. He challenges me to do my best and meets you where you're at. I look forward to all the future benefits his personal training will give me."

is another rockstar of mine! After over a year she has dropped substantial bodyfat and is stronger than she's ever been in her life!

In her own words:
"Jon is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced trainer! I had multiple muscle imbalances and weaknesses. Over the course of a year(and still continuing) I experience more energy, strength, range of motion and a new level of goal setting. If you are on the fence about your health journey get off the fence and come see Jon!"

Appreciate you both! Let's keep rocking this!

CLIENT WINS!

Some big client wins the past couple of weeks...

I video post client deadlifts a lot, and there's a good reason for that...

They're fun... But deeper than that is the underlying belief that people often have about lifting something heavy from the ground.

✅ "Lifting that heavy will make me bulky" I'm talking to you, ladies!

✅ "That's bad for your back!"

What's bad for your back is being physically unprepared for challenges placed on the spine by living your life!

blowing past double her bodyweight on the bar is flat out impressive, and for reps at that!

Jesse Knight approaching a double bodyweight deadlift after working with me for a few weeks, this guy has a lot left in the tank before hitting a wall, excited to see where he goes with it!

Both of these were done without lifting belts!

I rarely have clients wear one, unless they opt to do so!

NEW EQUIPMENT ALERT!

It's finally here.... Standing abduction machine...

The latest in our unique repertoire of equipment and perfect for building "the shelf"

This machine actually works ALL functions of the glutes because you're standing so there's a hip extension component as well as abduction and external rotation.

You'll need to squat down (try and your thighs get parallel) and then push the knees out while holding yourself in the squat position...

This one's a burner 🔥

You won't need a ton of weight (but don't do these without weight either as you'll just get a crazy groin stretch 😂)

Give this a shot and let me know what you think...

MORNING ROUTINES

I've been wanting to post on this for a long time...

I see these morning routines everywhere, this is what X millionaire does, etc...

They usually consist of several hours of cold water immersion, meditation, some "gratitude practice" and reading.

2-4 hours... It's what the billionaires do!

You don't need me to tell you that's completely impractical!

We're all busy, we got jobs, families, etc...

I will say that how you start your day DOES MATTER!

I like to think of the best morning routine as a list of DON'Ts and it starts with the night before!

1. DON'T look at your phone an hour before going to bed

2. DON'T allow yourself to hit snooze when your alarm goes off, my hack for this is placing your phone far enough away from where you sleep that when the alarm goes off you have no choice but to get on your feet!

3. DON'T look at social media or send non-emergency text messages right upon waking!

4. DON'T skip breakfast! Unless you're seasoned with intermittent fasting, get something in your system that has protein

5. DON'T fluctuate your waking times. It's been shown that people who wake up at the same time every day have better sleep quality overall!

I know people who say this stuff doesn't matter but you don't know until you've tried it consistently for a month 😉

You don't have to be a "morning person" to make it a good morning!

"I WAS ALWAYS IN GOOD SHAPE BEFORE"

When people see pictures like this they assume that I've always been in relatively good shape... not true at all!

Those of you who've known me a while know I was naturally chunky!

Just like trying to do the diet and/or workout that got YOU in shape 15-20 years ago probably isn't going to cut it now!

I've seen it more than a handful of times....

Guys will come to me trying to get lean using a diet they did 15 years ago...

They will automatically assume that the way they looked before was a direct result of everything that they did. Don't buy into that!

How we look and perform in our younger years is often IN SPITE of what we did, rather than BECAUSE of what we did.

We had time and hormones on our side! Don't be one of those guys that says to me "I used to look like you..."

You didn't, but aside from that, it takes the right approach to transform your body!

The old diet, the old workout only worked on the younger you!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING 🦃

I post this every year, every other coach and their brother posts something like this I get it 😂 but you're gonna see my 2 cents anyway 😜.

I know it's still helpful for some so feel free to share if you find it helpful

Some of you have asked, and some haven't but I wanted to give you some guidelines for how to handle food today and holiday eating in general.

THESE ARE IN ORDER OF PRIORITY BTW:

1) BE THANKFUL!
This goes without saying, but oftentimes when we are focused on a goal we forget to acknowledge the fact that we are privileged to be able to work towards that goal. Some will be spending the holiday in a hospital bed or in a nursing/hospice home and their only goal will be to keep pain to a minimum. The fact that we're able to eat and work off some of that food is a gift in and of itself!

2) IT'S JUST ONE DAY!
If you're already at some level of fitness then you've been at this for several months or years then you know that those results didn't come overnight and they can't be undone in one day, either! None of you have contests next week or in 12 weeks. There are no shows until March (or late February) so if you tell me that you weren't able to get in shape because you went overboard on thanksgiving I'm not buying it!

3) DON'T THROW SELF-CONTROL OUT THE WINDOW!
If you haven't figured it out, I'm saying you should enjoy tomorrow with family and/or friends and not stress about eating. That said, there's no reason to go crazy and binge with 3 or 4 plates worth of food. Eat until your satisfied, not stuffed! You can enjoy the day without going overboard!

4a) DAMAGE CONTROL NUTRITION
Enjoy tomorrow and don't beat yourself up or stress over food. But understand that you probably won't wake up Friday morning looking leaner or better. It will be a minor setback where you lose a few days of progress if you do everything right. And if all of your other meals tomorrow are low in carbs and fats and higher in protein and fiber then you'll minimize the damage. Keep in mind that protein and fiber promote satiety so it'll be harder to overeat

HOW TO AVOID SURGERY!

Was that click-baity enough??? 😂

Whether it's weight loss surgery or joint repair/replacement surgery, it's not always the answer.

There are several things YOU can do that helps mitigate your need for the knife 🔪

1. FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CAN DO!

As a PTA who's worked extensively with post-op patients, I can tell you that surgery can be a terrible pain management solution!

People often end up exchanging one type of pain for another!

To top it off, your movement is often restricted for weeks or months afterwards

And finally, there's no guarantee of results!

Instead, focusing on what you're ABLE to do allows you to rebuild your functional capacity

2. PAIN ≠ TISSUE DAMAGE, HURT ≠ HARM

People will often have chronic pain when there is no remarkable imaging.

Many of us have been conditioned to believe that if something hurts then it's been "damaged" and that any challenge to the body (aka working out) will damage things further...

Fact is, exercise is one of the least damaging things you can do for your body!

3. IF YOU'VE HAD SURGERY, YOU MUST RETURN TO (or start) STRENGTH TRAINING!

I'll often see patients or train clients who had surgery over a year prior.

They'll complain of knee pain a year after surgery or back pain over a year after back surgery, or regaining weight after weight loss surgery!

My question is always the same: are you strength training?

The answer is often "no" and sure enough those areas that are painful are often occupied by weak musculature!

I've delivered real world success for my clients and I can do the same for YOU!

If you're ready to make sustainable changes to your life then stop putting it off!

I'm taking on clients currently at CULTure Gym and ONLINE...

Send me a DM and let's get to work!

WHY YOU SHOULD LOVE THE LANDMINE PRESS!

The landmine is a fantastic tool for training all patterns, no question about that...

There are some exercises that I tend to program more on the landmine than others and one of those is vertical pressing!

My preference is a single arm press in the half kneeling position...

This position integrates core stability with the shoulder complex and is a pain free pattern for most people.

This exercise also has greater involvement of the serratus which is a crucial muscle for stabilization during overhead movements (which you don't get as much of when your back is fixed against a bench).

is demonstrating solid technique here and you can see you don't need a ton of weight to get a good training stimulus here!

Corina is actually competing in Portugal for a pro fitness title this weekend, so I wanted to wish her the best of luck also!

Give landmine presses a shot and let me know what you think!
