Join us and move "beyond technique". Most Hapkido are based on extensive curriculums that require rote memorization for many years to fully embody a handful of skills. This is the 80/20 Rule. In Yu Shin HapGi Mu Yae, aka HapGi Mu Yae, training is principle, concept, method, strategy, and focus-oriented. Skills/techniques are a result of embodying these key foundation practices.

Practical Application and Interpretation of Forms (Kata/Hyung):

I am sharing this video because it highlights the importance of analyzing and applying the skills, concepts, principles, and methodologies found in "forms". As it pertains to Taekwondo, if this is done, there would be no need for a separate "self-defense" curriculum. "self-defense" is inherent in the "forms". The Sensei in the video is an Okinawan teacher.

Although Japanese and English are not my language, I tried to make a translation, so please write in the comments how it worked out for me

What is OM-PM (Oriental Medicine-Physical Medicine)? It is an evolving definition. (c) Copyright 2005

My approach to OM-PM draws from the best of classical acupuncture and modern Western physical medicine to result in a hands-on practice focused on a person’s own unique mind-body holding patterns. The aim is not necessarily an Oriental or Western Medical diagnosis and treatment, but rather an integrated system of medicine in which theory, diagnosis, and treatment are based on the client's actual lived experience of illness and/or distress. Clients are evaluated and treatment is initiated on the table, with a hands-on communication established between the client and the practitioner that is unique and profound. In this physical encounter, years of chronic constrictions and related organ involvement can yield and resolve in a few sessions.

Swordsmanship

The practice of swordsmanship is an acquired taste, so to speak. The sword is a metaphor, an extension of our very essence. In the Buddhist tradition, the Bodhisattva, Manjusri, carries a flaming sword that represents the sharpness of insight that cuts through the veil of ignorance and duality, separates good from evil, and also represents compassion.
