Late season tracking is definitely up there in my favorites.
This buck came in broadside at 32 yards but Jack didn’t like his shot placement being too far back and a little high. He was able to track blood to some tall CRP for 150 yards then decided to back out and give me a call.
With a heavy presence of coyotes, frost setting in, and early morning travel plans, we got started a quick 4 hours after the shot was taken. Lily felt stronger than usual and blew past last blood heading straight north for another 150 yards. Then came to a fence into the timber where some fresh hair was stuck on a barb. We could hear several coyotes ahead of us as we continued through the trees for another very quick 400 yards. The last 75 yards, I could hear a coyote sounding off a challenge call. Lily’s hair stood up but she never hesitated-leading us right to this absolute bruiser! I’m really not sure if a major artery was hit or the coyotes finished the deer off or both. If we would’ve waited until morning, I’m confident there wouldn’t have been much left of him. The total track distance was 696 yards in 9 min 5 seconds. These are the most thrilling tracks! Lily amazes me with her abilities every season and this track was nothing short of impressive on her part! Congratulations Jack on a STUD!

With the season winding down, Lily has had a well deserved rest but she was sure excited to get out today! This buck was shot with two blade Swhacker broad head, a little farther back. The arrow didn’t make a complete pass through and left with the deer. The hunter followed blood through the trees into some tall CRP then backed out and called us.
We arrived first thing this morning with heavy fog lifting and a light drizzle coming to a stop; perfect tracking conditions!
Lily was winding through chest high CRP so fast it was hard to keep up but she took us right to the arrow, 340 yards from the hit site with no broadhead attached but completely covered in blood. A short 45 yards later we found him! Total track was 385 yards in 5 minutes and 15 seconds. Congratulations to the hunter and thank you for trusting us! Merry Christmas to you all!!

Esther found her first deer and he is a brute!

Buck was shot with a Stinger broad head at 30 yards. The shot placement was perfect and the bolt made a complete pass through. After searching the plowed field for blood but not finding anything other than seeing the direction he went, he backed out and called us. We were confident it would’ve been a perfect opportunity for Esther while Lily impatiently waited in the truck. We went across the plowed field but over shot the turn into the cedars at the edge but she picked it up when coming back. The first blood was only 5 yards from the deer inside some very thick cedars with a total 223 yards from hit site. She is still very timid so this type of confident exposure is perfect! Grateful for the opportunity to put her on these, but we still have lots of work to do!

Lily recovered a super nice Kansas buck last night! The hunter made a 50 Yard shot with his cross bow, shooting a 3 blade rage with a lumin nock. As the bolt left, he could see it cork screw through the air due to a loose fletching and hit behind the last rib-making a complete pass through as the buck was quartering away. They tracked blood for about 60 yards till it ran out, backed out and called for a dog.
We arrived 27 hours post shot. After a quick inspection of the arrow, Lily was hot on the track. We followed the blood trail 60 yards into the trees to last blood. Moving rapidly, we continued on for another 175 yards when we found this stud. Covering 235 yards from the shot point in 4 1/2 minutes. Congrats on an awesome buck!!

Lily crushed this track in only 11 min-all thanks to how Cindy handled it after her shot..no exit, no blood. With video of the hit, we opted to wait 8 hours to track as it looked like a high behind the shoulder with one lung and liver. Lily was hot on the track and was nearly to the buck when blood was spotted so we circled back and she took us right to him. Thanks for making the right call and backing out, giving Lily the best recovery chance and a really nice Bourbon county buck!

Brayden put a good shot right behind the shoulder from a tree stand at 15 yards, but didn’t get a complete pass through. With only a visual memory of the direction the buck went, he called for a dog. When in doubt, back out! Great move on his part.
Lily was on the track 9 hours post shot and took us to the first bed and only blood at 125 yards. 20 yards later we came out in a CRP field, I could tell Lily was wanting to play the wind as we skirted the edge for another 70 yards. When looking to my left I saw a coyote, watching us and not wanting to leave. So we proceeded to investigate and there was Brayden’s buck- 285 yards from the shot point. Congratulations Brayden on your first Kansas buck!

Brady rattled this buck in to 32 yards and stopped, quartering to. Shot entrance was thought to be one lung liver with an intestinal exit. After waiting two hours to look, he found he had made a complete pass though with a muzzy fixed blade.
We arrived 16 hours after; at about 20 yards in, Lily did a abrupt turn and indicated a wind scent but the blood trail was going in the opposite direction. We decided to proceed following blood. We advanced another 120 yards past marked last blood, crossing back and forth across the creek several times. Lily was locked on for the next 260 yards until we reached an area that felt like a scent pool. Then north for 300 yards and not finding anything, I opted for a restart at last blood. She took us the same path but did kick up a coyote out of some trees, then led us to a pond in CRP grass. Brady went to check the pond itself while Lily and I headed to the bottom side of the dam. Thankfully, Brady got a visual on his unexpired buck, bedded next to the water and was able to get a successful follow up shot! His trail led us 1492 yards, almost making a full circle back to where he was first hit..175 yards away from where we started if you took a direct line. Congratulations Brady and thank you for trusting us!

Stachia had the opportunity to stick her first archery buck and she got a stud! They were able to find some blood at the shot point but not much after that. So we got to help out! Heading into the wind, Lily was dialed in. After last blood we didn’t see any sign until 200 yards. shortly after Lily turned to the fence. There was minimal sign to see which direction the deer went after he crossed the fence. We went through some standing milo, then across another fence. 120 yards later we found him! 581 yards from the shot point with the arrow still in him. Total track time was just under 12 minutes Congratulations Stachia on your 171” stud!

Coyotes can be very humbling

Matthew contacted me about a buck he had a complete pass through with a 2” mechanical on, but felt it was a liver shot and the deer was slightly quartering to. He waited almost two hours after the shot to look for blood and ended up bumping the deer 150 yards from the shot point. Since these bucks are really amped up from the rut and given the information, I felt it was best to wait till the 24hr mark to track. Lily was hot on the track after the first bed and about 250 yards down the track we started finding small drops of dried blood about every 10-15 yards this spanned for 400 yards. As we proceeded, we found a second bed with wet blood. From there, Lily became very hard to read and was unsure about a direction. Continuing, we did find a third bed with wet blood. From there, we found small pin drops of wet blood and bumped a handful of does out of some trees. Thinking he was maybe bedded in there, we searched but never found a bed. A little stumped, we started to make the way back and we spotted the dead buck! The best I can figure is that coyotes were on him, his entire abdomen was full of blood, and we pushed them off, dropping the specs of blood we were finding. Lily was headed right towards him at one point and I pulled her off as she didn’t feel as strong as she did when we started. Easily could’ve been winding him. Unfortunately no meat attained with this one but Matthew did get some closure on his hunt! This definitely is a memorable track for me, as it is my longest recovery at 1,015 yards!
