We still had some spots left to fill so I invited a friend of mine and his son out to late season archery hunt on one of my new ranches we been seeing some good bucks on. The weather was cold but the rut was still on and the bucks were in search of the remaining does in heat. This is the time when decoys work pretty good. This buck came in on a line when he seen the decoy and Jerry made a great shot and the buck didn't travel far.

Next up it was my turn. With no paying hunters left for rifle season we headed to a new ranch I picked up at the last minute. I couldn't fill them with hunters so I decided to hunt it for myself and I also invited some friends to come hunt. Great opportunity for myself to get a chance to hunt and also to make sure the ranch would be worth leasing going forward. Well it didn't take long to realize this would be one of our best whitetail leases. Soon as I put out cameras we were getting pics of good bucks. We arrived with only 2 days left in rifle season to fill my tag. Soon as we got on the ranch Lacey looks over and says there's a nice buck. I put the binos on him and there wasn't just one good buck there were two. I said yes I'm shooting that one with the split g2's. I pull the truck off the trail, get out and start sneaking down the draw using the cover of the brush and trees. I was able to sneak to 75 yards. Got the crosshairs lined up on the vitals and touched off the 30-06. The buck took two steps and fell over. He would end up being my biggest whitetail buck I've taken. And to make it better I had my family with me. Once we got loaded Hatcher says now you got your big buck we can go to the waterpark for the rest of the day haha. Don't worry it was 10 degrees that night the deer was fine in the hotel parking lot for the night haha.

Lacey doesn't get much time to hunt anymore being a full time mom and teaching. She also has never taken a mule deer yet. So this season I applied her for a mule deer tag. She was lucky enough to draw and persuaded her boss to get some time off towards the end of the season. And of course we couldn't leave our little guide in training at home. After all our hunters were tagged out it was our turn. I had trail camera pics of this buck during bow season. The first day we seen a couple nice shooter bucks but decided to pass. We still had a week to hunt and the deer on this ranch don't normally leave the area. Then day two as we were walking down a ridge glassing Lacey spots this buck bedded in a draw below us. But he seen us first and spooked. I had an idea where he was headed. We looped around the other side of the ranch and started working our way back. That's when i spotted him with a couple does in a cedar thicket 180yds away. Lacey got setup and made a perfect heart shot with her The deer took a couple steps and fell over. She had finally gotten her mule deer. To make it even better we did it as a family. I Didn't realize how big it was until we walked up to it and Hatcher says "you got a big one mom". Scoring just shy of 180" with 7 points on his right and 6 on the left. Our little guy has been on two mule deer hunts now and both bucks have been big. I think I'll bring him along more often lol.

Chris's long time friends daughter Keira drew a tag this season. Chris took her up to his family ranch. She had limited time to hunt. But that's not really an issue on our ranches with a rifle. They came across this buck with good mass right away. Not a chance she was passing on him. Within the first couple hours she was tagged out and headed back home! Congratulations.

Repeat hunter Greg with the widest buck of the season. After some flight delays Greg only had two days to get the job done. We had seen this buck opening day but he got chased off by a bigger buck. We had taken the bigger one on day 3 so I figured he would make his way back the group of does. Sure enough as we glassed down in the draw we found him in the same exact spot. Greg made an exceptional shot and the deer dropped right there. Congrats and can't wait till next time!

WWO hunter Kyle with his 5yr old main frame 8 point with 3 extras. Kyle hunted hard passing up on multiple good bucks looking for one of those South Dakota giants we had pics of on our game cameras. The last day of the hunt this buck came walking straight towards his hay bail blind. Kyle will be back in 2027 for mule deer. Congratulations Kyle!

First rifle whitetail of the season was taken by repeat hunter Ryan. Ryan killed a great mule deer with us 3 years ago and wanted to come back for whitetails with his son. Ryan and his son had to arrive late because of work and school so I sent him coordinates to one of our hay bail blinds. They hadn't been in the blind an hour and spotted this buck. He chased a doe into a draw about 500yds away. After another hour he realized the buck and doe were not going to leave that spot. They snuck out of the blind and looped around above where the deer were. As they snuck over the hill they were in range. Slowly getting into position Ryan setup and made a great shot. Tagged out in only a couple hours of hunting with an exceptional whitetail buck. And to top it off he got to do it with his son. These are the moments us hunters live for. We only take a very small number of whitetail hunters each season to ensure the quality of hunt is one of the best out there. No slamming in bow hunters one after the other with low success rates. Every archery whitetail hunter we have taken in the last 3 years has as an opportunity at great bucks. Our rifle hunters have had 100% success. Most rifle hunts only lasting a few days or in this case 3 hours.

Jeff is a repeat hunter of ours. He archery hunted with us last season and had many opportunities on some great muley bucks but just wasn't able to make it happen. But his hunt wasn't unsuccessful. We found a nice whitetail buck bedded with a doe on the last day of his hunt and with the tag being good for a buck of either species he went for it. He was able to get within range and make a perfect shot on a great 160" whitetail. This season he was lucky enough to draw a rifle tag and in the first two hours of rifle season he put the hammer down on this tall 6yr old mule deer. Jeff will be back again this season for a combo archery mule deer and antelope hunt! Can't wait to run it back!

Our 2nd archery hunter on our new western SD ranch was able to connect on this old buck. It ended up being the 2nd oldest muley we killed in 2025. After multiple stalks on good bucks this one presented a great opportunity and Randy made a great stalk and a great shot. Congrats Randy! This past season we started pulling a tooth and sending them into Matsons to be aged. The biggest thing we learned is aging deer by just looking at teeth is definitely not a reliable way to age deer.

South Dakota 2025 was another successful year. Every hunter got an opportunity at a nice buck. Archery hunters averaged almost a stalk a day. Rifle season was 100% opportunity with only one hunter going home without a deer after passing on multiple shooter bucks looking for a SD giant! The season started out with tagging a nice western South Dakota archery buck on his first ever western hunt! Congrats kid! Your patience paid off!

"Thank you to Lyn Hoffman for the opportunity to go out to South Dakota, it was a blast! I am beyond grateful for the experience and thankful to be doing this kind of stuff. I stalked this deer yesterday and was in a drainage with him for almost 2 hours sitting within 50 yards of him and only laid eyes on him twice. He was bedded in some thick cedars and I couldn’t get a shot. The wind was swirling and he ended up winding me. He got up and went the other way. We found him this morning while glassing, watched him go over a ridge so we circled around and found him bedded on the hill side. We had a good wind so I snuck over the hill and sat at 30 yards for about 45 minutes he finally stood up and gave me a shot, and I smoked him!!! 1st ever mule deer down!!🤘"
