Can you name all these moves?
What’s in a name? This is something I cover in my classes. Yes it’s important to have names for these moves so that when we’re teaching, we can all have the same vocabulary. But what if I told you not every move has the same name (or a name for that matter).
Why is that? Because bellydance is a social dance, it was not always taught in classrooms, but in living rooms, parties and weddings.
So while I may call it “maya”, another teacher may call it ____? And that’s okay. What is important is that you learn how to do it properly and that you learn how to connect it to the music.
