We are so blessed and honored that Lt. Tim Weiss not only used LifeVac to save his daughter's life but that he took action to equip the entire Central DuPage EMS system so that everyone can be saved in a choking emergency. This is how we change the world!
Sharing post from Central DuPage EMS - Providers Leading the Way 🚒🚑
Starting in late February CDHEMS providers began carrying the LifeVac anti-choking device. This new piece of equipment was brought to the system by Lt. Tim Weiss of the Wheaton Fire Department. Lt. Weiss had purchased this equipment to have at home should the need arise. One night while at home with family, his wife discovered their daughter choking on peanut butter pretzels. Lt. Weiss attempted Heimlich maneuvers, back blows, abdominal thrust, all of which were unsuccessful. As his daughter began to change colors and turn limp, his wife retrieved the device and after a single use, the large airway obstruction was dislodged. His daughter is doing fine and he credits this device as being the only difference between life and death. Knowing its abilities to make the difference in life and death, he approached the system to ensure that these devices are available to all providers to give the best possible chance at survival and positive outcomes to the patient we care for. Words can not express how proud we are of our providers and departments leading the cause in all aspects of medicine and patient care!
