I want to give my thanks to all the runners, coaches, parents and people who just came to support todays race. Today Coach Sommer was smiling down and laughing at all the competitors. Cross country is meant to be brutal and challenging, and Coach Sommer always did his best to bring this to life. How he convinced God to give us a week of rain and tropical storm/hurricane to flood the course I'll never know, but he always just got it done. The runners that competed today, I doubt you'll face a more challenging course than you conquered today, the rest of the season should be like taking candy from a baby. I wish you all the best of luck the rest of the season. Coaches and parents, I thank you for not only coming and supporting this race, but for believing in your athletes, your children. Your support of them is what makes life worthwhile. Coach Sommer believed, when you face a challenge and overcome it, you become stronger. Today a lot of children became a lot stronger, a lot tougher as they face the future.
To all the 3D people, runners, coaches, parents, siblings, and supporters, we know the challenge and the legacy that Coach Sommer left us, and as long as the athletes, the parents and people like Coach Ben and Bumpus work forward to continue that legacy, 3D will never die. It is inside of each of us and will remain in each of us that were ever touched by his program.
