Jonathan has been a member of the SFAAA community since January 2022 and has held multiple leadership roles within the organization. He previously served as Membership Chair before being appointed Recruitment Director on the SFAAA Board of Directors. In those roles, Jonathan has focused on strengthening the league’s membership, welcoming new players, and creating opportunities for people of all experience levels to find their place within the SFAAA community.
While Jonathan may not have grown up playing baseball or little league, his passion for the game—and even more so, his passion for people—has become a defining part of his involvement with SFAAA. Originally from upstate New York, Jonathan understands the importance of finding a community where you feel welcomed and supported. That perspective has fueled his commitment to introducing new players to softball, including those who have never swung a bat or stepped onto a softball field, and helping them discover the friendships, competition, and sense of belonging that the game can provide.
As Tournament Director, Jonathan looks forward to bringing that same spirit of inclusion and community to the Hurricane Showdown. He is particularly appreciative of the many individuals who have dedicated their time, energy, and passion to building the tournament into what it is today. Their commitment has created a strong foundation for the event, and Jonathan looks forward to honoring that work while building upon the path they have paved.
“I’m incredibly grateful to the people who have poured their time and passion into the Hurricane Showdown before me,” said Rogers. “I have the opportunity to build on the foundation they created, and I want to carry that tradition forward while continuing to find new ways to make the tournament an incredible experience for every player, team, and visitor who comes to Fort Lauderdale.”
The Hurricane Showdown is more than a softball tournament. It is an opportunity to bring together players from across the country, showcase the incredible community of Fort Lauderdale, and celebrate the friendships and connections that make LGBTQ+ softball so special.
Jonathan looks forward to working with the SFAAA community, tournament volunteers, sponsors, and participating teams to continue the tradition of the Hurricane Showdown and welcome the softball community to Fort Lauderdale in 2026.
