SPARRING!!! It’s one of the most fun parts of training if done properly. It ties together all the technical skills with the mental and physical training. It builds confidence, comradery, and physical strength. Any child can learn if taught the proper way and supported by their parents.

STARTING AS A WHITE BELT. Every time we try something new it’s like being a white belt. We are going to make mistakes and have challenges. But if we stick with it, have some patience, and maybe learn to laugh at ourselves as we enjoy the learning process we experience growth. And just as our belts grow to a higher level, so does our skills, confidence, and resilience.

May we all approach our lives this way with each new challenge!

MUSCLE MEMORY. In self defense, your moves need to be automatic. This requires repeating a move continuously until it becomes second nature.

Another important aspect is emotional control. Even if you have muscle memory, if you lose your temper or become too afraid you will not perform at your best.

Luckily, Jiu Jitsu practice develops both muscle memory and emotional control.
