Bear season opened the other day. I had a fun and successful adventure. Got a nice, big, old boar. He was big enough I had a tough time getting him out to the road/pickup.

I figure that by taking this bear out of the population, I saved the lives of a good number of deer fawns and elk calves. These bears are really effective predators on those young critters.

Anyway, the mountains are beautiful this time of year. Ice and frost in the morning and almost T-shirt weather in the afternoon. And really getting green.

This is the stuff that makes memories. Hope many of you are out doing something fun and memorable as well.

I haven't had much to post for a while. We had the warmest and driest winter I can recall. And we are really dry right now. There's been moisture in some places, but it has been spotty.

I've been putting out bait for bears lately. There are good numbers of bears in our area. Too many for my taste. As I have written before, black bears are very effective predators on deer fawns and elk calves. So I try to get one when I can. The big bears are pretty nocturnal so I may come home empty handed again.

A few pics......and please ignore the date/time stamps. They are all messed up on my trail cameras.

Just an update for our 2026 hunts. First, the elk application deadline is coming up January 31. We still have room for a few more elk hunters if you have preference points. If you don't have preference points, you can still draw a license because 25% of licenses are issued in a random drawing. Please remember wyoming does not have have any landowner licenses or outfitter licenses. All licenses are issued through the Game and Fish drawing.

We also have room for antelope hunters. It takes 1-5 points to draw in our areas. Antelope hunts are a great family hunt for father-son or spouse hunts. We have great antelope ranches and are basically at 100% success on antelope after 38 years.

Our mule deer and whitetail hunts are full for 2026. And the mule deer hunts are full for the foreseeable future unless I can find some other great ranch to lease.

Please let me know if you are interested in any of our available hunts.

Please have a Merry Christmas and a safe and joyous holiday season.

Our 2025 outfitting season is a wrap. 100% success for all of our hunters once again. Here are pictures of the last elk hunt. If you look at all of the pictures in this post, you'll know we saw lots of elk.

Thanks to all of the hunters who chose to share adventures with us this year. We appreciate your patronage.

These two elk hunters had plenty of hiking and decisions to make. Each had a long stalk after the elk were spotted. The bull I guided with the first hunter included spotting the elk at about 1.8 miles away. Then a hike to get close, and a failed approach. (Could only get to 690 yards; too far.) Then a strategic retreat and a "slithering" stalk up the bottom of a shallow draw to 278 yards. Finally, the bull stood and turned broadside and he took the shot.

Another year of new and old friends and great memories. Thanks to everyone involved, especially our talented and able guides.

Just finished the first November elk hunt. Short and sweet. We saw this bull right after daylight the first day. It's hard to pass up an 8x7. Took us a while to make the stalk. After a long route/hike around around the ridge and a slow stalk, we got to under 200 yards and the hunter did a fine job of shooting.

Even thought it was the first day, its hard to ever pass an 8X7. Great bull and congrats to the hunter.

Whitetail hunters arrive in two days. Hope to get them some great bucks.

I rarely post anything about my hunting exploits here on the Triple Creek page. But it took me 32 years to draw a Wyoming moose license. Due to busy schedules and other conflicts, friends and family weren't able to go with me. So I hunted moose alone.

Pretty country and too warm and dry for early November. I didn't see many moose. This moose is respectable, but not a giant. He was 46-47 inches wide; decent for a Shiras moose.

When you are alone, and you get a moose on the ground, you realize just how HUGE they are. It was a real wrestling match for me to get him gutted and cleaned up. The best news was that he was close to a two-track road and I was able to drag him to the road with mule tape and my trusty old hunting pickup, then winch him in the back of my pickup.

I'm a little stiff from "moose wrestling" but I had a fun adventure and now have a great memory. Plus, it was good to see an old guy like me be able to do that alone.

Another group of deer hunters is done. Got some really good bucks. Great guys and excellent hunters. This is the 21st year they have been coming with us. Their dads came, and these gents come, plus they bring their kids when we have room.

The one mule deer has 10 scorable points on his right antler and 9 on his left. The other muley has cheaters on both antlers. The whitetail is just a great buck. His beams are 24.5" long and he is a 7X6 on his frame with some short "sticker" points around his bases, with good mass as well.

I pull teeth on these bucks and many of the others we get, then send in those incisors to get the deer properly aged in a lab. Many people think they can age a deer by just looking at its teeth. You can usually tell if it's an old buck or bull, but it's impossible to get specific. These deer were older, likely 5-8 or possibly older. A couple had teeth missing.

Anyway, another fun hunt. Great guys and success always brings smiles. Thanks to them for their continued and long-term patronage.

ALSO, PLEASE REMEMBER THAT OCTOBER 31st IS THE DEADLINE TO BUY WYOMING PREFERENCE POINTS. Be sure to buy points if you are interested in hunting Wyoming in the future.

We just finished another successful elk hunt. We had a nice 6 point bull by noon the first day. The hunter made a great shot, and it was really special that he had his daughter along on the hunt.

This bull was an old warrior. I took some pictures of his teeth and will add them to the post. (Sorry for the bit of blood.) He was very lean and had almost no teeth. A couple of his front teeth were missing and the others were worn off at the gum line. His molars were also basically gone. The most worn-out teeth I have ever seen on an elk.

It's too bad you can't see wind in pictures. It was 40 degrees and we had some rain and a dusting of snow overnight. But the wind was blowing steady at about 20-25 and gusting to 45+ all day. Not bad, but a little breezy even for Wyoming.

Thanks to the hunter for choosing us and congrats on a great adventure.

The first deer hunt of the year is done. Saw good numbers of bucks and some nice, mature deer. I wish we could find more places to hunt and take more hunters. Our mule deer hunts are full for the foreseeable future.

We also took a couple of great antelope. One looks to be a Boone and Crockett buck. He 16" on one side and 15.75 on the other. I scored one side and it was 42.25. 82 is B&C, but there's always shrinkage and some lack of symmetry. But he is definitely close.

These hunters were fine young men and very able. Excellent shots, could shoot quickly and were able to see well and walk the country with ease. And they were FUN!

Next hunt is elk in a good unit in about 5 days. We will hope for a big bull.

The first few hunts of 2025 are in the books. Four elk hunters. Three 6 point bulls and one 5 point. All antelope hunters successful and some fine bucks taken. 100% success so far.

Thanks to the hunters that chose us to help them find a buck or bull, and thanks to our outstanding guides for their excellent work.

No deer hunters yet, but the first two arrive tomorrow. We've been seeing many good bucks but no giants. We will hope for continued success along with building friendships and memories.

I will keep you posted about upcoming hunts and the trophies we harbest.
