Our team had a good day at the Sunrise Mini Trial!

Emma and Tao finished fourth adding just four point to their dressage score- good job Emma! They have some homework (don’t we all!) but I’m very pleased with both of them today. They’ve shown good progress since their last outing!

Rhiannon and Rawnee came out for a show jumping round and had a spooky moment that resulted in a refusal, but this round was much improved over last time, and I’m really proud of them both!

Arc and I had some good moments and also have lots of homework in dressage. In stadium, a spook took down an entire jump, leaving no good line to the next one, so I decided to take the TE and continue to ride the rest of the course rather than set him up for a bad line. We went on to have a fun and confidence building XC round and mixed in starter and BN jumps- he was an airplane, as usual. This is why schooling shows are great!

Michael had his first outing for a dressage test- the atmosphere was A LOT for him which resulted in a poor dressage score, so he has signed himself up for some field trips! This horse has been through a lot in the past six months, so I’m just glad to be able to finally have him out in public doing the things. As many are aware, Michael had a serious heel bulb injury in January. The fact that he was able to come on this adventure at all makes me so happy!

Copper gets an A+ today! He finished second on his dressage score, and was an absolute joy to ride. We still have some work to do in the strength building department, but I’m very pleased with this first outing for a lesson horse in training. And I loved seeing his fan club from Sunrise cheer him on!

Huge thanks to Lily and Megan for being superstar grooms- I literally couldn’t have ridden all those horses without you! Thank you to Lynne as well for making my horses’ manes so perfect!

Thank you to the entire Sunrise team for putting together a great day, especially for sticking with us in the heat.

And of course- thank you to Cara and the entire GreenAcres and Apollo Equestrian teams for making it possible for me to chase these dreams!

There are a lot of things I love about this mare, one of the big things being that she is so smart about how she uses her body! She’s stiffer to the right than to the left, and most horses rush, brace, and guard their stiff side, especially on the lunge line. But this mare actually slows down and stretches more when going to the right- I think she’s figured out that this makes her feel better in her body.

Also, Nyx is in the forelock department 😂

Today we went to to prep for the mini trial this weekend! I’m so grateful to have such awesome options for schooling so close to introduce riders to eventing ❤️

I did not do a good job of taking photos or videos today, so enjoy this photo from Spring Gulch last month instead 😂 I hardly have any photos of Apollo or Vinny competing… which I regret so now, I buy all the photos!

That’s a wrap on a great Archer weekend!

Megan and Apollo added one rail to their score to finish 8th at their first recognized event! I’m incredibly proud of Megan this weekend- she’s a handy and brave rider on a challenging horse, and I’m so grateful to be part of their journey! Welcome to eventing, Megan ❤️

I know another Apollo that was challenging and forced growth upon his rider in many ways… he turned out alright, and so did I. I have a feeling you will, too. That’s a name only the best horses have around these parts.

Arc and I finished 1st- and I’m so proud of him! He was definitely distracted by the bleachers and show day traffic in stadium today, but true to himself he tried his heart out for me and trusted me, which means a great deal more than the ribbon. He’s one of the good ones 🦄 As those who have known us a long time know, we have had a journey together with many peaks and valleys and it’s just so rewarding to feel how our partnership has evolved. I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to stop calling him by the nickname “Baby Shark” but he’s quickly outgrowing his “baby” nickname 🦈

As I’ve said several times this month- the big goals are still in the distance, but I see the path from here!

Onwards and upwards!

We had a great day at Archer today!

Megan and Apollo showed a lot of improvement in dressage, and finished cross country double clear and with a giant smile! I’m incredibly proud this rider’s dedication to her horse and her riding- she and her horse have improved remarkably in a short period of time.

Arc and I had a significantly better dressage than Spring Gulch a couple weeks ago (yay!) and were double clear on cross country. He didn’t feel as rideable as at Spring Gulch, but given that we were quite literally headed to the start box when they held due to a storm and had to untack and then warm up a second time, I’m incredibly proud of him and so grateful I get to be his partner.

HUGE thank you to everyone at Archer for their hard work this weekend, especially when the weather was so questionable.

Tomorrow, we jump the colorful sticks!
