Joan Clay - Dressage Elements

Joan Clay - Dressage Elements Specializing in foundational dressage skills to enhance your equestrian pursuits.

My focus is to help all horses and riders utilize dressage principles to improve their skill and athleticism no matter what equestrian sport they are most interested in. While my primary area of expertise is the dressage ring, I welcome riders whose interests lie outside of dressage and currently have students who participate in eventing, hunter/jumper competition, and basic pleasure riding. My dr

essage training philosophy follows the classic dressage training scale with an emphasis on strong basic skills for both the horse and rider. I work hard to understand each person’s riding goals and work to meet the needs of the horse/rider combination in order to make progress towards their individual riding goal. I try to help each rider become self-sufficient in accomplishing their goals by giving them the tools and strategies they need to improve their ability to ride and train their own horse.

‼️SCREWWORM UPDATE 06/08/2026 ‼️

As of June 8, 2026, there have now been multiple New World Screwworm detections in Texas, with one being in a county bordering New Mexico. Livestock movement restrictions are in place in Texas and information can be found here: https://www.tahc.texas.gov/

Currently, the US-Mexico border is closed to all livestock exports from the US to Mexico for any reason. This includes all horses. All livestock imports from Mexico to the US are still closed as well. Further, Canada is now restricting all imports of any livestock, including horses, from Texas, and prevents any livestock from entering Canda that have resided in or transited Texas in the previous 21 days prior to importation to Canada.

ADA is thrilled to offer a free webinar with David O’Connor, USEF Chief of Sport, who will lead a timely discussion on one of the most pressing topics in modern equestrian sport: Social License to Operate.

As equestrians, we are all stakeholders in the future of our sport. “Social license” refers to the public’s acceptance of horse sports - an acceptance that must be continually earned. O’Connor challenges us to examine how our training, competition practices, and daily interactions with horses are perceived both within and outside the equestrian community.

This webinar is especially relevant for equestrian athletes, trainers, parents, volunteers, and anyone who cares deeply about the future of equestrian sport in the United States. Find more information and register at https://azdressage.org/social-license-to-operate-in-equestrian-sport-webinar/
