The closing of Dover Saddlery in Parker is a big loss for our local English riding community. No matter where you shop, seeing another tack store disappear is hard for our sport and for the equestrian industry as a whole.
Times like these encourage all of us to reflect on where we spend our money and the impact those choices have on the businesses, services, and communities we want to continue seeing.
Independent tack stores are built by horse people, for horse people. We’re here for the last-minute show emergency, the first helmet purchase, the kid spending birthday money, and the lifelong riders who just want to hit the trails. We’re also here to celebrate your wins, admire all the horse photos on your phone, talk through the tough show days, and chat about all things horses with people who truly understand.
For over 40 years, we have worked incredibly hard to be more than just a place to buy tack. At Happy Horse, we invest in knowledgeable staff who are trained to properly fit riding gear and equipment. We spend countless hours sourcing quality products at reasonable prices. Our extensive consignment program helps make riding more accessible through affordable secondhand tack and apparel for riders of all levels. We support local barns, shows, rescues, and organizations through education and donations because we believe in reinvesting in the local equestrian community that has supported us for decades.
If you cannot visit our store or live in a tack store desert, consider shopping small online. Whether you shop at Happy Horse or another independently owned equestrian business, you are supporting passionate horse people pouring their hearts into this industry, and every order helps keep those businesses, communities, and connections alive for the next generation of riders.
The reality is: if riders want local tack stores to exist, now is the time to support them.
We are immensely grateful for every person who shops small, shares our posts, or recommends us to friends. Your support truly keeps businesses like ours alive.
Thank you for supporting Happy Horse and helping keep the equestrian community strong in Colorado 🤍
