Decatur Brazilian Jiu Jitsu The Decatur Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club is a not for profit sports club.

The Decatur Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Club is the only club in the Decatur/Macon county area offering instruction by a certified black belt with a recognized lineage in Gracie/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We offer adult and kids classes with both a self defense and competition curriculum designed to increase self-confidence, health and physical fitness and mental resiliency.

Elena trains with our competition team men every practice. She never backs down and every round with her is going to be all out until the timer dings. Intensity matters! In May she competed for the first time and brought home a gold medal, which suprised none of her teammates.

Ethan just started jiu jitsu but wanted to test himself in a competition last month. He brought home a silver medal in his no Gi bracket and placed 4th in his Gi bracket. His drive to improve every practice will no doubt turn him into a solid competitor very soon. Congrats Ethan!

This year Coulson moved up from our 4-6 year old group into the big kids. That's never an easy transition. Even though we pair by weight in all practies, moving up to that older group is a whole different vibe. Going from being the hammer to being the nail can be demoralizing, but if you lean in and concentrate on improving, success will follow. Coulson competed in the older age group for the first time last month and brought home a gold medal in his Gi bracket and a silver medal in his no Gi bracket.

When he's not coaching at competition or leading practice, stays sharp by pushing himself in competition. This past weekend he went to Atlanta, GA to compete in the ADCC Open.

This was his 3rd ADCC, he brought home Gold and Silver in Chicago and Nashville last year. For this event, he signed up in the expert (that is black and brown belt) division. That bracket is the wild west of submission grappling; no holds are illegal. Elijah is a blue belt and this was a huge step up in competition. While he didn't win gold, he did win bronze and beat some very tough competition, including a guy who won 3rd at IBJJF Worlds Brown Belt last year. The scariest part is that in that bracket, with those competitors, he was never outclassed or blown out. The level of competitors he faced, and sometimes beat, is testament to how hard he works on improving. Chad Michael Hawkins has created a bunch of world-class competitors right here in central Illinois and Indiana; Elijah is one of those guys.

Leonard competed in May and brought home a silver medal in his gi bracket. He went on to compete in an elite bracket, and while he did not medal there, the exposure to higher level competition will no doubt help him continue to build his game.
