Decatur Brazilian Jiu Jitsu The Decatur Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club is a not for profit sports club.

The Decatur Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Club is the only club in the Decatur/Macon county area offering instruction by a certified black belt with a recognized lineage in Gracie/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Wednesday night we continued working to build confidence in leg lock positions both offensively and when defending.
Transitioning between single leg X, traditional X guard and outside ashi and finishing an ankle lock from those starting positions was the major work accomplished.
Learning to keep your balance and building confidence defending leg attacks is part of the same drills.

Taylor competed in Springfield earlier this month and brought home a silver medal in her no gi bracket and a bronze medal in an Elite bracket. Taylor's hard work and no-nonsense demeanor is how she is able to podium as a one-stripe white belt. Being constantly pushed by your teammates in practice helps too!

Looking back on where we started in November of 2020 just looking for a way to keep practicing jiu jitsu to where we are now is incredible. We went from a handful of kids who we threw masks on when it was time for pictures to where we are now. There were nights we had two kids in practice who were no where near the same weight so we had them work with grappling dummies. Monday we had 43 kids in practice between our 4-6 year old group and our 7-12 year old group. Thanks to all the parents and coaches who have come along with us on this ride so far!

Big dogs eat. Jaxon competed in four brackets this month and brought home a Gold medal in a Gi heavier weight group, a silver medal in Gi, Silver medal in Elite Gi and a silver medal in No Gi. He also had the fastest submission, at 7 seconds into a match.

On August 8th, we sent five kids to compete in Springfield. They were no doubt the smallest team there. Those five kids tied for third place in total points, the team they tied with brought 26 kids. Tie breaker was total wins, which favors the bigger team. That result is incredible and shows the buy in that our kids have to our system and the dedication the coaches and parents for this team display.
