🥋 Daniel Cordeiro | Kohala, Hawaiʻi 🌺

Kohala born. Raised through Jiu-Jitsu. Now giving back to the next generation.

Daniel Cordeiro began his Jiu-Jitsu journey at just 5 years old, growing through the youth ranks under multiple-time World Champion Robson Moura.

His journey continued under his father and main professor, Professor Kahana Cordeiro, who awarded Daniel his Blue Belt, and now under multiple-time World Champion Horlando Monteiro, who promoted Daniel to Purple Belt.

Today, Daniel serves as an Instructor & Leader of Kohala Jiu-Jitsu, helping build the same community that helped shape him.

As an IBJJF competitor, Daniel has continued to test his Jiu-Jitsu on the competition stage:

From beginning Jiu-Jitsu as a 5-year-old boy in Kohala to now helping lead a program for the children and families of the same community, his journey has come full circle.

Above everything, God remains at the center. We believe the opportunities, the lessons, the victories, and even the challenges along the way all serve a greater purpose. Jiu-Jitsu is the vehicle, but the mission goes beyond the mats — to build character, strengthen families, develop leaders, and positively impact the next generation.

Built through decades in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Professor Kahana’s journey has included influence and training through Nova União, BJ Penn, Leandro Nyza, Renato Verissimo, Gustavo Dantas, Robson Moura, and Bruno Bastos.

Above all, his purpose is grounded in faith in God. That faith continues to guide his leadership, teaching, and commitment to serving students and families through Jiu-Jitsu.

Today, I thank God for the gift of your life and the privilege of being your father. Watching you grow through every season, being challenged, strengthened, and shaped into the man you are today, has been a blessing.

I’m proud of you, son. Proud of your strength, your growth, and every step forward you continue to make. My prayer has always been that you know who you are, where you come from, and most importantly, the God whose hand is upon your life.

Your name carries the name of Elijah, a man of courage, faith, and conviction who stood firm when others would not. My prayer is that you carry that same faith, courage to stand for what is right, wisdom to recognize God’s voice, and humility to follow where He leads.

🥉 Congratulations to Keliʻi on earning 3rd place at the 2026 IBJJF Honolulu International Open!

Keliʻi continues to show what it means to stay committed through a demanding schedule. While working a full-time job, he still makes time to train, compete, and assist Daniel with the students at New Life BJJ in Kohala.

His contribution to the academy goes far beyond competition. Keliʻi is someone the younger students can look to for consistency, humility, and a willingness to help wherever needed.

Stepping onto the IBJJF mats and earning a podium finish is another reflection of the work he continues to put in. We are proud of his progress, his loyalty to the team, and the way he supports the growth of Jiu-Jitsu in Kohala.
