Under Armour Nationals at IMG Academy
The Lawrenson siblings made their way to Florida for a chance to compete with some of the top throwers in their divisions that they would otherwise rarely cross paths with.
Brooke started the multi day competition off with hammer, and had hoped to get a big toss in her third ever competition for the event. Instead of setting a new best, she split the difference from her first meet last November and the one she had the previous week by going 147’4”. The effort earned her a podium finish with All American honors.
The next day Brooke went out looking to establish another new best in the discus, but instead had a consistent series with the furthest effort being measured out to 143’11”. That was still good enough for another podium finish and All American recognition. Lily gave it all she had in hopes of being able to snag a spot in finals, but even with an inch PR she finished two spots out of earning three more attempts. Her 134’7” is still a solid mark for a 10th grader.
Thaddeus tagged along all week and spent many hours out in the heat supporting his older sisters. He was ready to get a big throw and this was the stage for him to do it. Warm ups looked sharp and then he found himself with flight issues. His first “easy” toss of 136’7” was supposed to settle nerves and secure him a spot in finals. But the darn flight was off, and it landed significantly shorter than we had hoped for. On the next two attempts he still looked good through the ring, but the discus flight was not his friend and he could not better the mark. He too finished a couple of spots out of the championship rounds. It was a heartbreaking result for someone who coulda woulda shoulda finished around 4th.
