We cycle through a series of series of 4 classes using 16 different bodyweight exercises such as squats, lunges, and push-ups. Each class highlights 4 exercises – 3 strength and one cardio. We start by doing a set of 16 repetitions of each exercise, then sets of 14, 12, 10, 8, and 6, with a short break between sets. We also add a “guest exercise” on day 1 to challenge a different muscle group. Aft
er the sets we do 5 minutes of core work, followed by a short stretching time. Half an hour of focused workout and you’re done. If you can walk for half an hour and get up and down from the floor, you can do BodyFit. The exercises are challenging for someone in very good shape, but can be easily adapted for someone who has not worked out & wants to get in shape (or get back into shape). I can modify the exercises for particular issues (shoulders, hips, knees, etc.), but we need to talk before class. Who will benefit from BodyFit? BodyFit is good for everybody, but it’s particularly good for folks whose fitness routine is mostly cardio – walkers, runners, bikers, and folks who do aerobics classes such as kickboxing, step aerobics, Zumba, Nia, and traditional aerobics. BodyFit’s focus on dynamic functional strengthening means strengthening muscles which support joints, helping to avoid injury. The combination of strength moves with cardio conditioning also increases endurance. When and where are classes? We meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:15-6:45 am and 7:15-7:45 am at Creative Enterprises, 1913 21st Street in Forest Grove. How Much Does it Cost? Your first two weeks are free. After that, classes are $5 each. We also have a 10 class pass for $40 and a one month pass, also $40. What equipment do I need to get started? All you need is a full water bottle and loose, comfortable clothes you can move in. You can be barefoot or wear sneakers. We provide the weights and mats. How do I start? It’s most fun to start on day 1 of the 4 day cycle, but you can come any time. Just arrive 5-10 minutes early to fill in paperwork, go over the day’s exercises, and discuss any special concerns. What if class times don't work for me? Private training sessions are available. Where did BodyFit come from? BodyFit was developed for Holland America cruise lines by Steiner Studios of London to provide an exercise program for cruisers who wanted to maintain or increase their fitness level at sea. On the ships it is called "BodySculpt BootCamp" and can cost up to $120 for 4 sessions. Who is the instructor? My name is Rachel. I've been teaching BodyFit since February of 2012. I'm certified as a group fitness instructor through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and a Blue Belt Nia teacher.
