Springfield punches its ticket to the playoffs in thrilling OT win over Wissahickon!!

The Spartans have been nothing but focused and determined in three straight must win games to secure their playoff spot in the SHSHL. Winning 9-7 against Wissahickon, then 9-4 over Abington, the Spartans found themselves in one final win or go home matchup with Wissahickon late Wednesday night.

The Spartans came out strong and struck first with an unassisted goal by senior Grayson Quinn. Springfield then lost some momentum, letting up 4 straight goals by the Trojans by early in the 2nd.

Freshman, Lincoln Coleman scored late in the second on an assist from Gavin McManus renewing hope for the Spartans, now trailing by 2.

The Spartans came alive in the 3rd with impressive tenacity and grit. The defense was relentless and the offensive pressure was impressive. Gavin McManus scored on an assist from John Barr and Lincoln Coleman scored again to tie it up!!

Overtime started with the Spartans down a man, facing nearly a minute of 4 v. 3 action. Spartans defense was flawless, killing the penalty in expert fashion and freshman goalie Emmet Kline made some superhero saves in these white knuckle moments for the crowd.

The game winning goal was scored during intense 3 v. 3 play by Grayson Quinn with an assist from Gavin McManus - a moment these seniors won't soon forget!

Join us for more excitement on Wednesday, February 25th at 8:30 p.m. as Springfield faces off against Hatboro Horsham at Hatfield Ice Arena.

Senior Spotlight: Keegan McAlary

As graduation approaches, we’re honoring the dedication and heart our seniors have brought to the rink. As the season winds down, we’re looking back at the high school career of one of our players —Keegan McAlary.

Favorite Memory: Every single time we beat Abington!

Personal Growth: Being on this team helped me connect with many friends and taught me to be a better team player, both on and off the ice.

Support System: My family has been my biggest support, making sure I got to every game and providing my gear. My biggest mentor has been coach Don Quinn, who taught me so much of what I know about the game today.

Future Plans: After graduation, Keegan plans to enlist in the United States Marine Corps as a Combat Engineer. Thank you for your future service!

Advice to younger self: "Try new things early, because as you progress, your opponents only get harder."

Congrats, Keegan, and thank you for your grit and dedication to Springfield Hockey! We are incredibly proud of your journey and wish you the best as you head off to serve our country.

Senior Spotlight: Kellen Warman

As graduation approaches, we’re honoring the dedication and heart our seniors have brought to the rink. This week, we are highlighting the incredible high school career of one of our leaders on and off the ice—Kellen Warman.

Favorite team memory: Senior night this year

Personal Growth: Being one of the captains has pushed me to take greater responsibility for my actions on and off the ice, and that mindset has carried over into my schoolwork and social life.

Plans after high school? I am going to Penn State University….

Support System: Two years ago, I was at an all-time low. I felt overlooked and unsupported at my previous school, and I’d honestly started to lose my spark for hockey.

Transferring to Springfield High School for my junior year changed everything. It was a tough transition at first, but it was the best decision. I can’t thank Coach Don Quinn enough for being the first coach to truly put his trust in me and allow me to play to my full potential. Grateful for this team and the journey!

What advice would you give your younger self? "Work hard and stay out of your head."

We are so proud of Kellen’s leadership and resilience. We can’t wait to see him carry that same drive and determination into this next chapter—the future is incredibly bright for him!
