Hi all,
Haven't been online much (going past busy life), but i thought i would make a quick note to help everyone control the panic of the past days.
Emergency Preparedness
This is about mental processes and NOT gear.
Panic for food and TP are just unnessassary if you take a few minutes to walk yourself through what you REALLY need.
I'm sure you have seen the great post breaking down how much TP per go per roll will give you.
Planning is similar.
Here's a simple thought process to help you:
1. Pick a calories per day for food.
This is not for diets or high energy activities, this is for sheltering in place. Like diets, you can still plan the same way. So something around 1200-1500 per day is okay - YOU PICK what you want.
Part of this is to use NORMAL food. You don't need special rations for this. Most will expire anyway and cost way more than just stocking with normal items you use everyday. Canned goods have expiration dates you can rotate with. I suggest foods that do not need water added to use like soups, beefaroni, fruit, beans, etc. If you do use dry boxed things lime rice, make sure you mark you need water and how much.
2. Take step one times number of days you want to plan to have on hand.
Don't over think this. Use 3 or 4 days to make this manageable to get you going.
3. Do this for EACH person in your home.
If you have special diets or allegies etc. Customize this to your family's needs.
4. Now include the "little things" you will need as well.
Things like coffee singles, tea, TP, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, candy, snacks, special items, etc.
5. Put everything in a box.
This will let you mark everything for length of time, expiration dates, who box is for, special notes (need water), etc.
6. Now you inventory what you have.
You can now confidently and logically plan what you have and what you REALLY need.
For an example:
4 people x 4 boxes x 3 days.
Control the panic and be prepared.
