The two hardest belts in Jiu-Jitsu, in my opinion, are Blue Belt and Black Belt.
Blue Belt is where most people quit.
I got my ass kicked over and over again. My goal wasn’t to win, it was simply to lose a little less each time.
I sucked at it.
My ego took a beating just as much as my body did.
Then there’s Black Belt.
Ironically, it’s where you realize how much you still don’t know.
And yes, I still get my ass kicked.
I’m constantly trying to sharpen skills and learn techniques I overlooked or bypassed throughout the years. I maintain what I’m good at, but I spend most of my time being vulnerable in the areas where I still need work.
Both belts can make you feel like you’ve reached the finish line.
That’s a dangerous feeling.
It’s where many people get comfortable.
It’s where quitting becomes easy.
These are my belts.
This is my journey.
I didn’t quit.
And I’ve learned there is no finish line.
Comfort is growth dying in disguise.
Just like in nature, you’re either growing or you’re dying. There is no in-between.
I turn 47 next month.
I’m still learning.
Still growing.
Still evolving.
Not because it’s easy, but because I’ve chosen not to be comfortable.
At the end of the day, it’s a mindset.
One built through practice, discipline, consistency, and accountability.
If you’re ready to make a change and need help, I have a school full of people who want to be better, not just at Jiu-Jitsu, but at life.
Several new students who recently signed up told me they lost over 100 pounds before they ever stepped onto the mats.
That’s an incredible accomplishment.
They already developed the mental formula for success.
But they also understand that the work is never finished.
They want more for themselves.
Come surround yourself with a great group of people who have been through struggle and can relate to yours.
Trust me, everyone has a story.
Let’s improve yours together.
