Amelia Newcomb's Equine Services works to develop a trusting and confident relationship between horse and rider. Using theories from both natural horsemanship and classical dressage, Amelia creates a holistic approach to training that adapts to fit the needs of each individual horse and rider. Her approach incorporates all pieces of horsemanship from basic groundwork and ground manners to advanced

dressage movements. The emphasis is always on the foundation with the basic trust, understanding, and relaxation for both horse and rider as the building blocks to harmony and progress. After starting over 100 horses, Amelia has developed a step by step method that gently and methodically introduces the young horse to accept and carry a rider. She believes that the first couple months under saddle are the MOST important in any horses' long career. It is essential that the initial training is done correctly and carefully to ensure that each horse develops confidence in themselves and trust in the rider.

Are you pulling on your reins trying to get your horse round? ๐Ÿ›‘

More contact. More pullingโ€ฆ and still nothing.

Your horseโ€™s head is in the air, youโ€™re frustrated, and instead of improving, things feel like theyโ€™re getting worse. ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

Hereโ€™s the secret youโ€™re missing: your reins are the LAST thing that gets your horse round โ€” not the first. Your LEGS send your horse forward and create the bend. Once you learn the right order, everything changes. โœจ

๐Ÿดโœจ Thatโ€™s exactly what 30 Days to Dressage: Foundations with Amelia is designed to give you.

This is a LIVE 30-day kickstart that shows you what actually matters first โ€” so you stop guessing and start progressing.

Hereโ€™s how it works:

๐Ÿด Step 1: Complete an assessment and receive a personalized training roadmap
๐Ÿด Step 2: Practice simple, correct exercises that establish the right basics
๐Ÿด Step 3: Ask questions during LIVE trainings and Q&A โ€” so youโ€™re never alone
๐Ÿด Step 4: Finish with clarity, confidence, and a real foundation you can build on

๐Ÿดโœจ Welcome back to Episode 3 of my Dressage For All series!

This month, I'm featuring riders and horses from different breeds to go along with my mission of "Dressage for All" and making Dressage accessible to everyone who wants to learn. ๐Ÿ’› These aren't professional riders on Grand Prix horses. They're real riders working through real training challenges with horses they love. ๐ŸŽ

In this episode, I'm working with Jenny and her Half Arabian mare, Lil. ๐ŸŒŸ If you have a horse that tends to get behind the leg, break out of the canter, or require constant encouragement to stay forward, you'll find a lot of helpful lessons in this ride. We start by improving Lil's responsiveness and finish by working on flying changes. ๐Ÿ”„

One of the biggest themes of this lesson was teaching Lil to react more promptly to the aids. โšก Before you can improve collection, flying changes, or any upper-level movement, your horse must be in front of the leg.

Throughout the ride, we focused on asking with a light aid first and then following up if needed. The goal is always to teach the horse to respond to the softest possible aid. โœจ As Lil became more responsive, the quality of the canter improved. She stayed more balanced, more connected, and much more attentive to Jenny's aids. ๐Ÿ’ช

A big takeaway from this lesson is that it's easier to shape energy than it is to create it. ๐Ÿ’ก Sometimes riders are afraid of getting too much reaction, but a horse that is thinking forward gives you something to work with... ๐Ÿ‘‰ Comment "watch now" below, and I will send you the link to read more and watch the video.

Does this sound familiar? ๐Ÿด

You ask your horse to go forwardโ€ฆ and nothing happens. You squeeze, you nudge, you shove โ€” and still nothing. ๐Ÿฅต So you start focusing on the head, trying to get your horse round, but instead things just feel more tense and disconnected.

Youโ€™ve heard things like โ€œget him in front of the legโ€ and โ€œhe needs to be rounderโ€ โ€ฆ but nobody ever told you what that actually means or how to get there. ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

Hereโ€™s the truth most riders never hear:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Itโ€™s not your fault.
๐Ÿ‘‰ You were never taught the correct steps to achieve this.

The engine has to come BEFORE the front end. Your position has to come BEFORE effective aids. And the system has to come BEFORE the movements.

Thatโ€™s exactly what 30 Days to Dressage: Foundations with Amelia ๐Ÿดโœจ is designed to give you.

This is a LIVE 30-day kickstart that shows you what actually matters first โ€” so you stop guessing and start progressing.

Save this. You'll want to send it to every rider who's ever said "I could never do Dressage." ๐Ÿ˜…

I've heard every one of these myths โ€” and believed a few of them myself when I was starting out. ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ

The truth? Dressage isn't about fancy horses or perfect riders. It's about a system. A clear, step-by-step way of communicating with your horse that makes everything click. โœจ

Dressage is for every horse. ๐Ÿด๐Ÿค That's my mantra. Dressage for all.

Because here's the thing, the basic principles of Dressageโ€” rhythm, suppleness, connection, etc โ€” are the same no matter what breed you ride or saddle you ride in. But how you apply them? That changes completely depending on the horse in front of you.

The sensitive Thoroughbred is not the same as the laid-back draft cross. ๐ŸŽ Training the young green horse is not the same as the older lesson horse, who's been doing it "his" way for years.

There is no one-size-fits-all. There is only the horse you have โ€” and what he needs from you right now.

So I want to help. ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ’ฌ Every horse is different โ€” what element are you struggling with in your riding and training right now? Tell me below, along with your horse's breed and temperament, and I will give you a resource to help you. ๐ŸŒฟ

It's back!

I'm so excited to share with you that my course: 30 Days to Dressage: Foundations with Amelia, is returning for July!

No one was born knowing how to ride Dressage. And often we're left struggling:

>To get your horse to turn, go, or stop.
>Your horseโ€™s head is up in the air.
>Youโ€™re pulling with your hands and squeezing with your legs but nothing seems to happen.
>The words connection, suppleness, and half-halt are totally confusing.
๐Ÿ˜ขAnd instead of improving, you feel like things are getting worseโ€ฆ

Please understand: It's not your fault.
Most riders were never taught the system that makes Dressage actually WORK.

That is why I built 30 Days to Dressage: Foundations with Amelia.

I ran this course this spring, and hundreds of riders (just like you!) saw amazing results because they finally had a clear structure and support every step of the way.

Hereโ€™s how it works:
1. Youโ€™ll start with an assessment and receive a personalized training roadmap
2. Youโ€™ll learn what Dressage really is and how to begin the right way
3. Youโ€™ll practice simple, correct exercises that build understanding and confidence
4. Youโ€™ll have access to live coaching and Q&A so youโ€™re never riding alone
๐Ÿ‘And by the end of 30 days, youโ€™ll have a solid foundation and a clear path forward

The course starts July 1st, and itโ€™s designed for riders who want a solid start, real understanding, and a confident, willing horse โ€” without frustration or confusion. You actually donโ€™t need more time in the saddle to improve your riding. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Try this instead:

Grab a pair of reins and connect them to a wall or banister. ๐Ÿ”— Make sure you have that ear, shoulder, hip, heel alignment โ€” just like you would on your horse.

Then practice mini squats. ๐Ÿ‘‡

And hereโ€™s the key โ€” as you bend and straighten your knees, bend and straighten your elbows at the same time. This perfectly simulates your posting trot! โœจ

If youโ€™re horse crazy like me and always craving more time in the saddle โ€” this is the next best thing. ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’›

You can work on your position, your alignment, and your feel without even leaving the house.

Iโ€™ve put together a FREE PDF with the best fitness exercises for riders โ€” so you can keep improving even on your days off from the barn.

๐ŸŽ‰ Welcome back to Episode 2 of my Dressage For All series!

This month, I'm highlighting students and their horses from a variety of breeds to show that Dressage is for all. ๐Ÿ’› These aren't professional riders on Grand Prix horses. They're real riders working through real challenges with horses they love. My goal is to help you see that no matter your horse's breed, age, or experience level, Dressage can help you build a better partnership. ๐ŸŽ

In this episode, I'm working with Cindy and her Quarter Horse, Jack. ๐Ÿค  Together, we're tackling canter half passes and flying changes. It's a great reminder that Dressage isn't just for Warmbloods. Many different horse breeds can learn advanced Dressage movements when the training is done correctly.

In Dressage, one of the biggest challenges with flying changes is that so many pieces have to come together at once. ๐Ÿงฉ The horse must be straight, balanced, and attentive to the aids before the change can happen successfully.

In this lesson, we focused first on improving the quality of the canter. ๐ŸŽฏ A balanced, jumping canter makes everything easier. From there, we worked on canter half passes and shoulder-fore positioning to help Jack stay organized and prepared for the flying change.

One of the things I loved about this lesson was showcasing a Quarter Horse performing advanced Dressage movements... Attention dressage riders โ€” do you know the difference between lateral and longitudinal suppleness? ๐Ÿค”

Because both of them are essential to riding your horse well. โœจ

Here's a quick breakdown:

๐Ÿ”น Lateral suppleness โ€” this is the bend around your inside leg. Think of your horse curving through their body from nose to tail.

๐Ÿ”น Longitudinal suppleness โ€” this is the bend over the topline. Your horse is round and swinging through their back, not tight and hollow.

Both work together to create a horse that is soft, connected, and truly through. ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’›

If terms like these leave you scratching your head, you are not alone โ€” and I've got you covered! ๐Ÿ˜„

I've put together a FREE PDF โ€” 10 Dressage Terms Every Rider Should Know โ€” to help you better understand the language of Dressage so you can ride with more confidence and clarity.

Can I ask you something? ๐Ÿด๐Ÿค

Why do you love Dressage?

I ask because I think we don't talk about this enough. We talk about scores and movements and training problems and competition prep โ€” and all of that matters. But sometimes I want to go back to the beginning. Back to the feeling that started all of this.

For me? ๐Ÿค It's the connection. That moment when you and your horse are so in sync that the aids almost disappear. When you think something, and your horse does it. When the conversation between you becomes so quiet and so clear that it feels less like riding and more like dancing. That feeling is why I do this. Every single day.

It's also the journey. ๐ŸŒฟ Dressage is one of the few things in life that genuinely never gets boring โ€” because there is always something to learn, always something to refine, always another layer to find. The horse is always the teacher. And if you're paying attention, you never stop growing.

And honestly? It's the horses. ๐ŸŽ Watching a horse find balance, find rhythm, find ease in his body โ€” that never gets old. Ever.

But I want to hear from you.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Why do YOU love Dressage? What is the feeling, the moment, the memory that keeps you coming back? Drop it in the comments โ€” I genuinely want to know. And I have a feeling someone reading this today really needs to be reminded why they started. ๐Ÿ‘‡
