2022 Trout Population Monitoring:
Bull Shoals Tailwater

The Trout Management Program has completed its annual fall monitoring event of the Bull Shoals Tailwater (White River) trout fishery. Over six nights in October and November, a total of 1,846 trout were collected, of which 54% were Rainbow Trout and 44% were Brown Trout. Overall, sizes of trout ranged from approximately 4.6 to 33.3 inches, but the average sizes of Rainbow and Brown Trout were 11 inches and 17 inches, respectively. The largest Brown Trout collected (pictured above) was 33.3 inches and 20% of Brown Trout collected were over 20 inches. The largest Rainbow Trout collected was 21 inches and 10% were over 14 inches. Brook Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Tiger Trout and a number of other sportfish species were also collected during the event, but made up the minority of fish collected. The completion of the effort on Bull Shoals Tailwater (and on Dry Run Creek last week) brings a close to the Program’s annual monitoring activities. As soon as possible, the Trout Management Program will publish the 2022 Annual Report which will detail all monitoring, stocking and research efforts conducted in 2022.
