Flemington Tennis Club is a not-for-profit private recreational and social club maintained to provide tennis facilities for the use of our members and promote tennis in the community.

The club was founded in 1927 by returning World War I veterans.

FTC Closing Day activities will commence at 10:30 am this coming Saturday, December 8th. Please mark your calendars to volunteer, enjoy some fresh air and help close and winterize the courts.

Please bring your cooperative spirit, warm clothes and work gloves. Additionally, if you have a step ladder, leaf rake, leaf blower and/or wire cutters, please bring them along. As always, many volunteers makes for easy and quick work for everyone. We look forward to seeing you.

As the year comes to a close in many ways, I hope everyone will have the pleasure of visiting with family and friends on Thanksgiving Day. Although Mother Nature effectively closed the courts with the early snow storm, the official FTC Closing Day has been scheduled for Saturday, December 8th. More details on the Closing Day activities will follow in the coming week. In the meantime, please mark your calendars to volunteer to help close and winterize the courts.

Congratulations to Brian McCarthy/Kevin Mitchko for winning the FTC Doubles Championship (6-4; 6-2) vs. Tom DeSimone/Dom Cassone. I hear it was a great match with Brian and Kevin playing at the top of their game. Wish I could have been there!

Congratulations to Tom DeSimone for winning the FTC Singles Championship (6-1; 6-1) vs. Jim Rauch. Jim played a great tactical match, but Tom was destined to regain his title for the 5th time. Thank you to all the spectators who came out to enjoy the brisk Fall afternoon to support the two finalists. Great fun for everyone and fabulous snacks (sugar cookies, ooh so good) provided by Rene.

On behalf of the entire membership I would like to thank George Walchuk for organizing and providing leadership throughout the tournament. A few final words from our infamous Tournament Director, George: "Congratulations to all who played, and all who watched (much more fun from my viewpoint drinking beer on the sidelines)! And remember - everyone is a winner > at Flemington Tennis Club."

The FTC Halloween party has been cancelled due to very challenging and unpleasant weather. I want to personally thank Marie Collazo and Annu McCarthy for their time and effort organizing the event. Hopefully their enthusiasm for original and creative events will carry over into the 2019 season.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature has offered mostly tricks and limited treats.

Our Fall 2018 social event will be hosted by Annu McCarthy and Marie Collazo who have graciously volunteered to form the Social Committee for the balance of 2018 following the relocation of Karen and Jim Fania.

The sixth annual 2018 FTC tennis tournament will be held July through September. Since there has been no meaningful turnout for the Women's tournaments we intend to organize a one day Women's round robin tournament later in the season for which details will follow under separate cover. We will again open the Men's Doubles to teams comprised of 2 women. Therefore, the three 2018 Tournament Draws will be:

Men's Singles
Men's Open Doubles (teams comprised of 2 women are welcome to participate)
Mixed Doubles

Although inherently competitive, the intent is to focus on fun, as well as to foster interaction among all Club members.

The tournament rules are attached for your information. Given the challenge scheduling match dates around participant personal schedules and the published Court Use Schedule (i.e. pick-up game times, organized play times, etc.,) we will make every attempt to allow as much time as possible for each round's match completion, to be scheduled by and between participants. The finals timing in each group would be announced via email and on the Club bulletin board for all interested to observe.

If you have any questions, and/or are interested in participating, please contact George Walchuk by July 13th, ideally via e-mail to [email protected] providing your full name, contact details, partner for doubles (or a partner assistance request) and the tournament category(ies) you would like to participate in.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 9th at 3:00pm to join your friends at the Flemington Tennis Club for our 2018 annual Open House Party. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be provided and we are asking members to supplement with side-dishes and desserts. Feel free to invite your family and non-member, tennis playing friends.
