🪷 FEATURE TEACHER : JULIANA ROUNDS 🪷
What first brought you to yoga and how has your practice evolved over time?
I took my first yoga class, as a teenager with some friends, at a local YMCA almost 20 years ago. We went to “get more flexible” but I stayed with the practice. At first I was in it for the movement, and while I still love the movement … I now am here for the stillness.
How would you describe your teaching style?
Simple, slow and grounding. I weave relatable themes or yoga philosophy and breath awareness into all of my classes and leave plenty of space for quiet and reflection. But slow and simple doesn’t always translate into easy.
What’s something yoga has taught you off the mat?
Yoga has taught me so much - but the most profound is aparigraha, non attachment. Holding this practice in my day to day helps me move through all of the sweetness and stickiness of life. It has taught me to fully engage with the present, take in the medicine of the moment and then let it all go.
Early bird or night owl?
Early bird, I love to wake before my husband and four daughters to soak up the early hours of the morning and I am ready for bed by 9pm.
Coffee or tea?
Both! Coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon and evening.
Beach, mountains or both?
Mountains! I grew up on the beach and we moved to the mountains 10 years ago and my soul feels truly at home here.
Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall
All of the seasons hold a different kind of magic for me, but spring and fall are my favorite.
Favorite pose and why?
Savasana because life is a whirlwind for me and the antidote for the busy-ness is to simply do nothing at all.
One word you’re living by right now?
