Would you rather have a nurse who passed a weekend class/online class or would you want your nurse to have graduated from a 4 year university and has spent thousands of hours learning and being the best nurse that they could be?
Or a lawyer, would you rather work with a lawyer who graduated top of their class or who skated by?
As someone who has put in a lot of work and effort. Its hard seeing people being fed inaccurate information from trainers and coaches. Before you hire just any trainer do your homework. Check their education. Check their experience. Check their client history. Do they work for themselves or do they work for the gym?
Most trainers have certifications they received online and did it over the course of a week or two. They don’t have hundreds or thousands of training hours. They do personal training on the side for an extra dollar. I’ve seen it far too many times. Most trainers don’t have proper education or experience on subjects that they claim to be experts on.
Like most, I have those easy online certifications too. They have some decent information, they invoke some outside the box thinking because each certification is different.
With all that being said....
I also have a Kinesiology-Exercise and Sports Science B.S. from Wayne State University. I have a Fitness Management associates degree I received while serving in the Air Force. My main certification *requires* a bachelor degree as a minimum. I’m a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. I have 8 years of experience, I’ve helped hundreds of people and spent well over 8,000 hours doing so. I’ve spent at least 3 times as long as that studying, learning, and practicing and perfecting movements.
Before hiring a personal trainer or coach, do your research on the person. Please don’t walk into a gym and hire the first trainer you see. Just like everything else, all trainers are not created equally.
