Race 1 for 2025 is in the books.
we started out Friday morning loaded up the van and left home around 10:30 or so, Myself, Zach and Celeste.
our first stop was Road house market at Elmore's corner ( hwy 160 and 172) we stop to get fresh New York style pizza that is delicios and priced good, then a few miles down the road for a visit to maverick store in Durango for an indoor bathroom break
South on Hwy 550 to Farmington for another Maverick to fill the van, get motorcycle gas and a full propane tank.
we finally pull into to " the dunes OHV" around 3:00 get everything unloaded and set up and waited for 2024 year end awards for Zach to collect his Championship prize [ That included free food truck visit for dinner for all 3 of us) so we didn't cook the food we had Friday.
The other Hatton family Marvin and Bobbie had a little truck issue with a clogged fuel filter and but when you have the best mechanic around as the driver he just pulled into to a parts store and popped on a new filter and made it to the camp a bit late but safe and no tow truck needed.
I drove us to Dinner in the Van and found a questionable spot to park after we eat I start the van put it in Reverse to find a Toyota Tacoma parked directly behind us at the end of a 2-track dead end trail so with Zach's help we successfully maneuvered the old girl around the Toyota and back to solid ground and made it back to camp. It is always fun to just set outdoors and talk Crap to each other catch up with race friends and try to plan out the next day.
Saturday morning rolls around and finally in our 12 years of WEBE racing we do not have any kids in the Mini-bike races, so we all got to relax all day until 1:30 full course practice and then 3:00 pm Team Race. Well as thing go in racing with a couple issues the schedule was moved back an hour so we all adjusted and finally got the big boys on the bikes.
This year we have Zach racing Pro class, the Anderson boys moved into B class and John Anderson in 40B group. Team race starts went good Zach came back first lap and exchanged the Hair Scrunchy with our good friend Colby Harrison and Colby goes out for his Lap, Trever Anderson comes in and has had a tip over in a technical section and ended up ruining his exhaust pipe so after some attempts to find a pipe he ended up finishing the day on his Mini bike put unfortunately didn't fill the fuel tank and ran out of gas on his last lap, Blake Anderson and his team finished the day with no issues as well as Colby and Zach ( Second Place in A class team).
The Boys decided to call uncle/cousin Chester to have him go to our house and pick up Zach's YZ125 to bring the next morning we took the pipe off to let Trever use on his bike so he can race.
We finish the day with smash burgers from the Andersons, so we didn't use our food again, had campfire and talked more crap then went to bed.
Sunday Morning rolls around and we all get another leisurely start while waiting for Chester, since all the guys are in the afternoon race, we have breakfast and watch the Moring riders go by camp.
All they guys are getting prepped, and bikes are filled with fuel then we all start to head down for the start (our camp is about 1/2 mile from race camp) and Blake Anderson turns around to announce his front tire is flat.
I started to just air it up then we realize we should put in a new tube. Chester pulled the tire off while I got the tools ready, and we team up on the tire and swapped out the tube in just a few minutes and have him ready to race.
The afternoon race is 2 hours from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm all our guys have clean starts and everyone is turning in good solid laps, Zach settled in at 6th in the Pro line and 6th overall for the entire day, the Anderson boys rode vey very good for the first time in 250B and Blake was 2nd with little brother Trever bring in 3rd, the old man John 1st place in 40B.
We all packed up after a quick hot dog from John and our new tradition of Johnny's Pizza back at Elmore's corner we came homer to very good homemade Pintos and ground beef Burritos the Rochelle made to finish the day.
Thanks to God for bringing us all together and home again. thanks to our Sponsors
