To everyone who showed up, spoke up, and fought back for public lands this week — thank you. While an amendment to nullify the Roadless Rule passed the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on Wednesday along party lines, the fight isn’t over. The bill will now move to the Senate floor, and we, along with our community and our conservation partners will be watching. We’ve put additional resources in our bio link to help reach out to your senators

The fight continues, and in the meantime, we can still celebrate the wins. Utah Senator Mike Lee’s effort to undo protections on Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by a simple majority exceeded its deadline this week, and it must now face a larger 60-vote majority. This means it’s less likely to pass, and protections are more likely to stay in place. As always, nothing is guaranteed and we’ll need to keep pressure on lawmakers.

From our office in Flagstaff, AZ, we’re surrounded by 1.8 million acres of the Coconino National Forest. In total, Arizona has over 11 million acres of national forest, making it the top 7th state by national forest area after Colorado.

The recent announcement that the .s.forestservice headquarters is moving from D.C. to Utah is concerning to us for many reasons, but above all, it puts the lands in our backyard, as well as 193 million acres around the country, at risk. As 9 regional offices close, over 50 research facilities are eliminated and institutional knowledge is lost, the effects on public land management will be far reaching.

As a business that relies on responsibly managed and accessible outdoor lands, and as a part of the broader outdoor community, we aren’t sitting on the sidelines. We’re focused on ensuring that the Forest Service is fully funded and stewarding our lands in a responsible manner, and it’s why we’re joining in D.C. next month to speak directly to lawmakers about these issues. We’ll continue to share, speak out, and encourage our community to do the same.
