It was fitting that one of our first gatherings in the restored space would be this one—honoring the most recent scholarship recipients of the Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Classic.

These five young women bring academic excellence, real ambition, hearts to serve, and genuine kindness. We loved getting to hear about their passions and plans! Swipe to meet them, and join us in congratulating them.

The room said everything about what the Tommy is: Volunteers, sponsors, family of former recipients, longtime Z Wave staff, a lifeguard, a contest judge. People whose lives have been woven into this community for years, gathered to cheer on the next generation.

As always, these scholarships are awarded by the Tommy but made possible by every sponsor, contestant, and participant of the 23rd Annual Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Classic. Thank you!

1998 —> 2026 | Tommy would have been 52 today. His and Will’s parents came across these first photos recently from Tommy’s original paddle out. Will, family, and close friends next to Z Wave, just days after Tommy passed. The common thread is surfing, tying these relationships together. It reinforces how special it is for us to be moving into this building and honoring what the contest, community, and craeft of surfing have given us. Not just our family, but all of us.
