With great sadness, we strike eight bells for Kevin Carroll. A longtime member of the FIYC IOD fleet and Team Jester, Kevin brought intensity to the racecourse and laughter to the club porch afterward. Our deepest condolences to his family and the many friends he leaves behind.

Fishers Island Wins 2025 IOD Worlds! After a topsy-turvy week that featured races in zero knots, races in 25 knots, 180 degree wind shifts, and variety of racing areas from the open ocean to the inner harbors, Team Norwood held on to secure the top honors. Team Zallee took 4th and Team Ginch took 6th in another impressive showing on the fleet’s biggest stage against the best IOD sailors in the world. In the last 10 years, FIYC has won NINE World Championships with little indication that they will slow down any time soon. Congratulations to Team Norwood, Team Zallee, and Team Ginch, and thank you to for putting on a great event, the boat owners for lending their boats, and the NEH community for putting up all our sailors for the week. The Community is unique, close and strong—and getting younger by the looks of the crews on the dock—a good sign for such a storied class. FIYC’s Jonathan Farrar got several shoutouts during the winners speeches noting his successful efforts to bring a new generation of college sailors into the IOD fleet. Well done, all!

Team Norwood: Skipper John Burnham, Beth Scholle, Jennifer Parsons, Oliver Parsons, and Thomas Walker

Team Zallee: Skipper Jonathan Farrar, Isabelle Farrar, Mike McNamara, Kevin Gilman, Graham Siener

Team Ginch: Skipper Wes Maxwell, Henry Maxwell, Rich Formica, Will Cox, Will Mackay

Day Three (Tuesday) of the IOD Worlds in Northeast Harbor. Beautiful place to sail, but the wind has been flukey. Challenging conditions with the wind dying and re-establishing over and over in the afternoon races. Team FIYC continues to do well with Team Norwood in 1st and Team Zallee in 2nd.

Day Two of the IOD Worlds: strange things afoot atmospherically. Despite the swirling winds, the hardworking RC managed to get two good races off. Competitors hit the water at 9 am but the first race didn’t happen until 2 pm. We were ashore by 6 pm. Late building sea breeze seems to be the pattern, with light and squirrelly breeze from every direction early. It was a long day on the water for all competitors. FIYC did well. More sailing today.

Please be advised that we are preparing the club for severe weather coming today into Friday, August 22nd. While the impact of Hurricane Erin on Fishers is still uncertain, we expect sustained winds from the Northeast as well as storm surges coupled with higher high-tides due to the upcoming new moon. We ask all those members with vessels in West Harbor to ensure your boats are secured ASAP. All preparations for the storm should be made by boat owners in advance of the severe weather.

Please ensure that you have chafing gear, fenders, and extra lines in place before the end of the day. Yacht owners are encouraged to spin their boats so that the bow points north/into the wind. We DO NOT offer assistance from a liability standpoint; all boat owners need to make arrangements.

Make sure to fasten your stays and rigging securely. If heavy rainfall occurs, our dock staff will be on hand to pump out any moored boats if we are able to do so safely. Please be sure your deck and hull are clear to make this task as quick and easy as possible for us.

Power will most likely be turned off through the most severe periods in order to avoid any complications to our electrical system. All members should disconnect and store their cords.

Most importantly, we hope everyone stays safe!

Wow! The stars really aligned for this magical evening one week ago. Under the Tent Night: Full Moon was a phenomenal success. The food was delicious, the company great, and the moon as bright and big as it gets. More photos coming soon.
