Day 2 of our Horse Crazy Adult Weekend is in the books! We started the morning with a discussion of equine social structure, why it is important to understand, and how we use it to better communicate with and care for our horses. Then we had the opportunity to work with Caryn Switzer on our jumping skills. As always, Caryn did a phenomenal job pinpointing what each rider/horse combo needed in order to progress. After jumping we discussed lameness evaluations while observing a couple horses movements. We wrapped up the day playing with our horses over obstscles, with many stepping out of their comfort zone and going ba****ck! Here are some pictures celebrating the triumphs from Day 2!

On our final day we will be working with Crash Proof Cross Fit and riding cross country!

Our Horse Crazy Adult Weekend is off to a tremendous start. Today we are working with Katherine Abrams on our dressage, our horsemanship portion is learning how to take vitals, weigh our horses, and use the Henneke Body Condition Score. We will wrap up the day with dinner together. Then back at it at 8AM tomorrow!

Wow, what a wonderful Wednesday night! We kicked off our Summer Twilight Series with a jumper type “show”. Riders got to practice their jumping position, setting a tempo, riding accurate turns, and balancing their horses between jumps. We started with walking groundpoles, moved step by step up the levels, and finished with 2’9”. While we call our Twilight Series shows, they are much more than a traditional show. Our Twilight Series is set up to allow riders an opportunity to practice what they are doing in their lessons, gives them a chance to work on their skills, gain confidence in their decision making, and keep the learning process going. Another special aspect of our Twilight Shows is riders receive feedback from the judges after each show. In our Jumper Shows, judges can give immediate verbal feedback, but we will also email you their comments after the show!
One aspect of showing that causes a lot of nerves and anxiety is memorization of dressage tests and jump patterns. Our Twilight Series is a great place to learn and practice different memorization techniques. Whether you learn visually, aurally, or kinetically, we will support riders by helping them find the memorization technique that works for them and practice that technique in our Twilight Shows. The bonus? These memorization techniques will help you be a life long learner. Are you still a rider worried about going off course or forgetting your pattern? That is OK because we allow coaching at our shows!

The horse world has always been a little different.

Long before “chosen family” became a phrase, barns were quietly creating it.

For generations, they have been places where the kid who felt out of place found belonging. Where differences mattered a little less. Where hard work mattered a little more. Where people from different backgrounds, identities, and walks of life found themselves in the same barn aisle, united by a love for horses.

The truth is, horses have never cared who you love, who you are, what you look like, or whether you fit neatly into someone else’s expectations of who you should be.

They ask only that you show up. Be honest. Be kind. And keep learning.

This Pride Month, we’re celebrating the riders, trainers, breeders, grooms, owners, and horse lovers who make our community richer simply by being themselves.

And we’re grateful for every barn that has been a safe place, a fresh start, a refuge, or a home when someone needed one most.

Why should the kids have all the fun? We will be hosting a horse crazy adults only weekend June 19-21.
