25/26 Duck Season has came to an end. This was if not the slowest season we have had yet but hard work and great clients are what makes it a success so thank you all for another great season and look forward to share the blind again next season! Ok debate time… friendly one!!! Ha. Here is my take on the flooded corn debates.
I’m no expert by any means. We hunt ducks and love it. Is this year the worse I’ve seen.. Yes. Has it declined over the past 8-10 years? Yes! Why? Not sure. I pay my fees and dues and donate to people that are experts to determine that. However I feel we have been failed. So I think the flooded corn is the reason. Yes SOME. Do I think weather. 💯 Yes. However. If ducks have the flooded corn and no reason to leave then they won’t. If we had the weather those flooded corn fields become frozen around january thus it won’t matter if they flood or not because birds will leave with the ice line and head south to us like the usually do. However this year and last it never really froze so they are not going to leave the 1000s of acres of food to come down to the south where we usually have the open water. So yes the weather is the biggest part of this crappy season but we have usually always counted on January to have tons of birds and generally it’s because it’s frozen where the man made food sources are. I’m happy we have the few birds we do as most are ghost town but I would vote no unharvested agriculture fields to be flooded for the sole purpose of hunting ducks. I guess time will tell and hopefully seasons to come will be better for us all and remember it’s about time spend in the blind with good people and not the harvest but we all like the harvest every now and then too.
