Big shout-out to Chael!! From a small school in Fernley to NAGA in San Jose!

Chael competed in both GI and NO-GI divisions. Both had 6 man brackets. Chael takes a silver medal in both divisions!

Through injuries, tears and laughs, the growth continues! Peyton has been training with me for 7 years now and it's been an absolute joy to watch her growth. Why tonight?! Well...Happy Birthday Peyton!!

It's subtle. But this picture captures so much of what jiu jitsu is to me. Me on the right, with one of my purple belts on the left. Through work, we've been competitors for some 25 years. Jiu jitsu, though, has brought about a friendship that I never thought would be captured in a random candid picture.

The other day a guy visited the gym and called me Professor. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I told him I hate titles. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
But if he wanted to use a title, call me coach. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
In my bearded opinion, professors and instructors are similar to a coach, but different. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
An instructor or professor will help you get the most from your techniques whereas a coach will help you get the most from yourself.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And when I look at what I do on a day-to-basis it’s far more than just educating people with techniques. ⁣⁣
